I have a 22 year old cousin, who I know has a mental disability. When i was younger it wasn't very obvious to me but now that im 16 I'm curious as to what her mental disability is. I never bothered to ask because I feel rude in a way. But my cousin isnt able to read or sound out words and she doesn't enunciate words very well. She also has trouble making sense when she speaks, like her mind is all over the place. And sometimes she stops in the middle of of what shes saying or doing and just stares off into space and snaps out of it sometimes with a jump. Its hard for her to do basic math as well and when she tries she gets irritable. I also ask this because I was also wondering can someone with these symptoms break through this with more help to learn how to read and whatnot?

it sounds like a learning disability, but it could be ADHD or autism, I can't really tell. is there any way she could see a psychiatric doc to get a diagnosis or has she done already?

she does sound like she has some type of disorder. i would ask her if she thinks she has one herself, and let her know you want to help her. you could teach her some coping skills, i don't think math right now would be a good thing to start with but maybe some english skills would help. good luck

Schizophrenia is also a possibility but she needs to be seen by a specialist.
