Last night I was having lots of disturbing dreams, then I woke up and couldn't sleep do to birds chirping very loud. I moved into another room where I have a cot, and then I couldn't sleep due to a throbbing, humming, deep base sound. When I plugged my ears, the bird chirping returned - even though I was in a different room.
I don't know if I hallucinated all these noises or magnified existing noises and hallucinated other noises. Do others experience this type of thing? I'm a little concerned, because I had psychosis 5 years ago, and I don't want a relapse. I'm burned-out and stressed-out from work, and the 3-day holiday weekends are extra busy for my job. Thanks for any feedback. ![]() |

Hi, I have these types of noises too, but in my case they're hypnogogic hallucinations. Google it because it sounds like what you may be experiencing too.

I've had something similar happen to me too…everything was just way too loud for some reason, even with ear plugs in. In my case, I wasn't hallucinating and my therapist thought it might have had to do with my anxiety and hyper-vigilance with sound. Basically, sound in certain circumstances seem to bother me and I guess I had a big freak out one day over it and then for a while afterwards, everything sounded too loud and I was afraid of sound for a while.
I can't answer for you whether your issues with sound are hallucinations or not, but I just wanted to say that they aren't necessarily in every case. Stress/anxiety could possibly do it too as it did in my case. |

I could hear the birds chirping - even with my ears plugged, so I guess that would be hallucination. It's like my brain was so used to hearing the birds chirping from the first location I was sleeping, that I continued to hear birds chirping in my head after relocating away from the birds. I also have a problem with fragrances and perfumes. I seem to be hyper-sensitized and easily upset by things that I never would have noticed until this past year. Anyway, it's minor stuff as long as it isn't the prelude to another psychotic episode. Thanks for the help, everybody. ![]() |

Stress from your Job is why this happening. Time for a vacation? or a less stressful job?

![]() What really worries me is if I have another psychotic episode. There weren't really any warning signs that I can remember. A day or two before it happened, I started feeling that things weren't right somehow. Then I snapped. Hopefully I won't let that happen again, or I will understand what is happening and get medicine this time. Last edited by x123; May 23, 2015 at 02:12 PM. |
