The mental health workers hypnotized me to think that my name was Samantha. They were stalking me online and calling me Samantha. So, I thought my name was Samantha and not Sarah. Has anyone else forgot their name?

No, it was back in 2008. I think. I was online and people kept calling me Samantha and I thought my name was Samantha.

I didn't have an experience like that but yes I had a problem spitting my name out a couple of times.
I think it was purely from anxiety and brain fog. But it was a desperate and embarassing moment.

Though I do not believe I've ever forgotten my name, I once forgot how to sign/write my name on a document. It was about a minute before I recovered the ability to get my hand to do what it had done without conscious thought many times before.

I tend to zone out at times, so maybe not really forget my name fully, but for for a moment I may have heard the question but unable to make the connections to say it.

I have forgotten my name when I was super duper tired. It can happen in psychosis and people with DID also. Sounds like you were going through a really rough time.

Hmmm interesting as any hypnotic suggestion leaves a person within a short period of time UNLESS the person wants it, or it is truth. Maybe you have an alter-ego who goes by Samantha.
I have forgotten my last name at times though... stress I'm sure...and the fact that I lived under another name for decades ![]()

Quote:
There is a psychological phenomenon called 'conformity'. It happens a lot, and to everybody I know. This is how it works. If several people tell you something is true, then doubt about what you thought was true changes to suit the others. This happens within groups of 3-8 people. So, if 20+ people said something differently, then conformity has less impact Conformity happens because humans have two (amongst others) strong social desires. "We like to be liked, and like to be right". These desires influence us to conform with the others. In the above post, it says "people kept calling me Samantha and I thought my name was Samantha". To me, that points to conformity. This happens to me all the time. For example, I meet several friends for a bicycle ride. We originally planned to go to the next town. But along the way we stopped for a rest and someone said, "lets go back for a coffee". At first nobody showed any sign of agreement. Then another person said "okay", then another, then another, then everybody agreed to go back for a coffee. I knew it was conformity, but I wanted to go to the next town. So I said, "I am carrying on to the next town as planned"; and off I went all alone on my bike. Sometimes it takes courage to be true to ourselves. |
