I know a lot of medications list memory loss or confusion as a possible side effect, but tonight I started thinking more about it. . .
I mean, my memory hasn't been the best lately but I never put much thought into it until recently. I listened to a story (not on this site) of a girl who was on medication for depression and anxiety since she was little but said she went off of it in her early 20's because she was scared of the long term effects it would have on her memory. She had already experienced some loss of memories and was afraid it would get worse. I know I'm a paranoid person, it's nothing new, but this has just got me wondering. Should we be more concerned about the long term effects medication could have on our memory?

i always wondered similiar things about being on meds as ive been on them for years now. in the beginning they were forced on me in the 1980s, i would always get in arguments about what these meds were going to do to me in the future. i was walking around calling myself a ginuea pig. its 30 years later and they did do some damage but without them i'm a mess. i also wondered if they never gave them to me in the first place if i would be addicted like i am now.

I also experience some memory loss but it is the issues of being confused, slow, and 'dumbed down' that are of chief concern.

As with all medications there are side effects, and we have to weigh it up whether the medication is helpful or not. If you feel your memory is really being effected please let your doctor know so there can be an adjustment or change in medication. Of course worrying that our memory is being affected is going to make the issue worse.

Thanks for the input everyone. It was just something that I was thinking about lastnight.
I worry about it sometimes but I worry more about dealing with myself when I"m not on my meds, so I'm not going off them anytime soon. I was just thinking out loud I suppose ![]()
