Hi there, I have borderline personality disorder and clinical depression, I've been told by multiple people that I should be in therapy but I'm so self reliant on everything I feel like I wouldn't be able to feel comfortable. I also don't know if I'd gain from taking therapy so I was wondering if I could get feedback from those who are experienced in having therapy with similar issues??

I've had very good experiences and some that were a waste of time. What I dread about going to a new therapist or psych doc is trying to summarize my history/experiences. It's just grueling.
Thanks for this!

I'm doing individual therapy and my second round of DBT.

I was never open to the idea in the past, way too used to being self reliant, and didn't want anyone scratching in my head poking the demons I hide away.

But it came to a point where I just became completely fed up with myself, and understood exactly why my bf had to leave me.

Both forms of therapy has been incredibly helpful, and bf came back, so that's a bonus.

The problem with therapy is some therapists help and others just tap dance around. Does therapy help? Yes and No. If you have the wrong therapist, it totally just wastes your time and money. If you have a good therapist, it's still expensive, but it helps. And for the most part, change happens slowly. So it's a long commitment.

If you go to a therapist for six months (twice and month), but don't do the exercises they prescribe, therapy will never do any good at all. You have to enact the changes that are recommended or those which arise from the sessions. If you don't nothing changes.
Thanks for this!

Therapy is a big help for me and I love my therapist but I know there
are a lot of crappy ones out there.
If you find the right one I believe they can be a huge help.

I really got a lot out of my therapy. It was CBT and thus was treated as a course that required a great deal of work; far from sitting there getting questions asked that may only be trivial in the end.

As you are BPD I would look into DBT
