ever play charades? this is a big one around my home. we have 3 children and many times they have trouble telling us whats what. so they start a charades where we make guesses based on their facial expressions\body language \ acting out what they want us to know. I do this with my treatment providers too when I have trouble explaining something.

writing? I also write\draw sometimes just writing stream of thought will get the right words out. sometimes drawing what I am trying to say or am feeling helps.

breathing... many times when Im stuck just taking time to do my breathing clears my mind enough to be able to find the words I am looking for.

yoga....sometimes taking a break from the problem and flopping down on the floor for some yoga helps me

my suggestion talk with your treatment providers, they will be able to help you find ways that will help you to put words to what you are feeling.

For me, sinking, it is just the writing that helps me to express myself. I don't have others read it. I don't need to talk about it. I usually throw it away when done. There is just something therapeutic about the words and feelings that come out (mostly temporary emotions) that relieves me from those feelings. Yet sometimes, a good sentence or two will emerge that I will want to share with a close person to help explain what I'm feeling.

Just get your hand moving across the page, may begin like jibberish, but somehow, the right words will start coming out without thinking.

Your name, dear sinking, makes me think of a song who's lyrics help me sometimes. Here is the youtube link:

For me it took going to a DBT group with an outstanding group leader who treated the group more like a college class, teaching us also how the mind works. Then getting an understanding of words that described what I was experiencing. One thing that stands out was the list of emotions I was given.....HUGE LIST. I went through & wrote down all the words that expressed what I was feeling at the time & next to that wrote the why that was causing the feeling. Wow, that shocked me when I wrote down 2 pages of words. That sort of broke the ice for me in identifying what was going on inside of ME because I had no idea how to put it into words & really describing the feeling didn't express what the problem really was.
