I'm in grade 12, my final year in school. I am screwing up in school because I have no motivation to actually do my work, better myself, or really anything. I have these dreams of what I want to accomplish. I am extremely self critical of myself and everything has to be perfect and if I screw up in anything I just lose interest because im not good enough. Its ******** because I want to do great in school and I want to study but I cant focus for the life of me so I just dont.
I really want to succeed, I truly do and I WANT motivation so badly. I look at all of these other people that can study and push themselves where I want to be like that but I just cant.
Please dont even tell me to go out and force myself to do things because I literally cant even do that, i want to be able to have my own job someday, be independent, be somebody that people can look up to, but I cant dig myself out of my own personal hell which is my mind that tells me to not do anything but sleep.

The first thing to success is giving up perfectionism. Even successful people fail sometimes.
Thanks for this!

Hello there and welcome to Psych Central. Might be worth a visit to the doctor to see if there is anything physical going on. Are you getting enough sleep? Is there any life style changes you need to make? In the meantime try not to be so hard on yourself, you are human and there is a lot of pressure at your stage in life. You might also look into getting some psychological counselling. Take care.

Is there anything that you enjoy doing? My therapist recommended doing things that I enjoy to boost energy. I feel too depressed and motivation-less that I struggle to do this, but it might be a place to start.
Thanks for this!

One thing that pops into mind is why are you feeling it neccessary to be perfect? Why are you putting yourself down? Have you been told this or learned it from somewhere? In who's voice is your inner self being critical of you? This may be the source of the issue and not merely being unmotivated. Is there something else that needs to be addressed?

It is good that you are reaching out - and welcome as I see you are new - but I would like to see you reach out to a real life person too. Do you have a school counsellor? As this might be depression - or another psychological disorder - I suggest seeing your doctor - in most countries you are old enough you don't require permission and for your medical history to now be confidential. A doctor can help point you to resources. Another resurce is a kids/youth help line, I think there is an international one too.
Thanks for this!
