How do you display it on your profile?
Can you also have it displayed on your posts?
Thanks
Thanks for this!

I think this is a good question, because many times I've thought a member was a different gender than they turned out to be. The only reason I think gender is important is just because if I know I'm posting to a male, a female, or a transgender person my responses might be slightly different. Knowing who I'm responding to makes my reply more personal.

I have assumed you are male, but I don't even know.

Yes, exactly!
There's one member I thought was a female according to their writing, only to find out they're male!
Also, someone accidentally thought I was a female, I don't know why, but it's ok.
I'm a male, you won the points.
Thanks for this!

Yep, I wish we could. Plenty of times I've been mistaken for a guy on these forums. Yes, I am a woman!!!!!!!

Have you noticed the status you can changed that is immediately beneath your avatar. Note I've taken advantage of this to reference I am a She. It's the only way I found.
Thanks for this!

We need an added feature to display the gender on posts and on a profile.
Thanks for this!

as far as I know there is no way to display m, f, or other gender selections that said anyone can use their status line to display anything they want others to know for example my status line usually says lesbian, mother, wife, treatment provider, by reading my status line people know I am a female, sexual orientation, have children, married and my chosen career. that way people are less shocked by my posts. sometimes I edit my status to designate when I am on vacation so that members can see that I may not be online on a regular basis. Sometimes my status line is wishing others well during the holidays... my point you can put anything you want in your status line.

to customize your status you go to your profile, and then click on edit where it says you have no status. then write your status line, then click the word edit again which will set your status.
Thanks for this!

Write it as part of your biography.

Fine yes, but I don't open up everyone's biography in order to respond to a post.

Yes, but using a status for this is an alternate solution, as displaying info about yourself is not a status about yourself.

I know there's a forum plugin that gives a space that allows the users to type in whatever gender they identify with, not just male/female. I just don't know if it's applicable to this forum's software, seeing as there are a few different software options for forums these days.

actually if you look up the definition of the word status it is defined as

1. the relative, professional or other standing of some one or something....

to me that means a a persons or things...
gender,
profession/ career
what a persons rank with in their family, friends or any other place in their life,

the second definition of a persons status is defined as...
position of affairs at a particular time, especially in political or commercial contexts

to me that means a person can tell others
how they are feeling,
what they are doing
wishing others or one self well during the holidays
designate their political or commercial designations

in other words use the status line for telling others anything that they want others to know about their self and where they stand.

on social networking sites like facebook a status is a mixture of these tw definitions where people post to each other how they are doing , what they want others to know about their gender, sexual orientation, health issues, political views, things they are selling and other keeping in touch with family and friends.

I know you are looking for a place in your profile where you check off the word male or female but this site does not use that as far as I know, they dont need to because theres already a way provided where people can .....if they choose to.... designate whether they are male or female or other gender identifications....the status.

maybe a moderator can also check in about their or the sites views on this issue.

If there is ever that option I hope it will be possible to leave that field empty.

Agreed, it should be non-obligatory.

The only time I'm concerned about gender is when I use the pronouns for the third person: he, she, his, her, .... etc. Otherwise, there is no difference, at least for me.

I agree with Jimi and Vibrating Obsidian that displaying one's gender should be optional.
