So I have been reading online about personality disorders. I can relate to two of them. Borderline personality disorder and schizotypal personality disorder.
Borderline personality disorder: I have strong. Intense mood swings. I'm impulsive with money and self harm. I feel empty a lot I love than hate love ones. I don't know who I'm going to be or who I am. I fear abandonment. Schizotypal personality disorder: I believe that some events have special meaning toward me. I have magical thinking and some odd beliefs. I'm paranoid for most of the time. My appearance is a bit odd. People consider me weird and odd. I have social anxiety that does not fade, since I'm paranoid over half the time. Does any of this sound like I have both, one or neither of the disorders? I'm 14 and they have always been there. |

Hi, Rincad, and welcome to Psych Central! Although some of us have diagnosed personality disorders, we could only guess what's happening with you, since we're not qualified to diagnose. Sometimes people perceive themselves as having some disorder since many people have one or two, at least, such symptoms.
The only way to know for sure is to get evaluated by a mental health professional. Plus, I'm thinking someone needs to be 18 to be officially diagnosed, since personality can be changing during the teen years. I suggest you talk to a school counselor, since your asking indicates you are concerned. If these pervasive ways of acting are dealt with earlier, then I think the likelihood of getting out of them is higher. Would you consider therapy? Your life will be happier as a result. (I was able to overcome borderline personality disorder.) Again, welcome! Make yourself at home here. ![]() |

Definetely reach out to a school counselor. A school counselor was instrumental in helping my daughter get through her senior year after being diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety. Also have you reached out to your parents? Would they consider taking you to a therapist?

It can take a lot of testing or a lot of hours with a therapist to figure out a diagnosis. But if you are unhappy, talking to a therapist might help regardless of your diagnosis.
I think that personality disorders are not often diagnosed in teens, because teens typically change a lot. Can you talk to a counselor at school? Or another trusted adult? |
