didn't know where else to put this!
. been having problems with this for a while now first due to low foliate and iron and after taking supplimants from doc of foliate which was meant to solve both levels have dropped further,gp trying to blame periods which I know are definitely not the problem as they are way shorter and lighter than ever before, anyway im now to take iron as well, just wondered if anyone else has similar issues.

Hi crimson cat.
Your doctor seems to be doing the right thing by prescribing supplements to boost your iron levels. I'm guessing this will be a case of 'Wait & See'...However, anaemia can sometimes be a 'secondary' symptomatic indication of a Primary disorder or illness. Be sure to stay on top of this by keeping an open dialogue with your treating doctor. Get your levels checked again in a month or 2 then take it from there. Be kind to yourself crimsoncat.

Seroquel made me anemic. It went away as soon as I stopped. A few of the antipsychotics can cause it. I'm not saying that is what is causing your anemia, but it's something to consider.

Yep I'm anemia too. But not too worse, through sometimes could make me dizzy.
My Mom said eating beets can help the iron deficiency. Mostly we made it as soup, because we don't like to have them as juice. |

My oncologist insisted that I NOT eat or drink: spinach, peanuts, nor any black teas as these combine with the iron in the body and the body THROWS it all out!
I cannot take iron supplements as they are synthetic and my body reacts paradoxically to them (making me more anemic). I have not had a problem with anemia since removing the "3" things from my diet. But also, taking in Vitamin C, leafy greens help your body to absorb the iron-rich foods you eat. (I had to also remove gluten as it prevented my body from absorbing ANY real nutrients from the food I was eating!) Good wishes! https://www.myfooddiary.com/blog/eat...ron-absorption

Check your heart rate. I had a friend who had a slow internal bleed. Eventually she ended up in the hospital. First two indicators were a dropping iron level and extremely high heart rate 100+. They said it was from a colonoscopy a few months before.
Otherwise.. are you taking B vitamins? I seem to remember something about Iron needing them to absorb in the body. |

I am severely anemic and get iron infusions a few times a month. The symptoms that I get are dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and low oxygen levels. It sounds like your doctor is keeping track of things. Make sure to get your blood levels checked every 4-6 weeks until your anemia is controlled which I hope happens soon for you. *hugs*

Hi Crimsoncat, I just got told my haemoglobin is half what it should be and I'm very likely anaemic (apparently the two aren't necessarily the same thing) I'm guessing it's my periods but reading your thread I'm now wondering.
I was on Zoloft for 6 months last year and after reading some of the replies on here decided to Google, and yes it is associated with iron deficiency anaemia. So in my case at least I'm now thinking this could have been med related - my exhaustion goes back to being on Zoloft anyhow. Thanks for sharing and I hope the supplements help you. |
