Just read Psych Central paper on serotonin and depression. Have read 17 other papers, blog posts or articles on "low serotonin". None of them define "low". Can find lab reference ranges from 50 to 310 ng/ml for serum serotonin. Doesn't tell me what is clinically"low". Can some knowledgable person define "low" for clinically low plasma serotonin?

That is one of the reasons that some people take issue with the idea that low seratonin is the cause of depression and perhaps other issues. There is no blood test that can identify a person who has low seratonin. The theory goes that if additional seratonin helps, then you must have been low to begin with.
So, no. There isn't a defined "low". |
