What do you when you have no support system. I live in very conservative community that offer no resources for people like me. The only options I have are 12 step programs which are geared towards people with drug addictions and church.

No offers any “real” help

i actually told a doc one time that when i need help and can't get it, i just do without. he asked me how i do that... O.O uh, er, poorly.

sometimes online help, peer support in the forums, or chat friends are all you can get... sometimes not even that. i have been known to say: "wait it out", endurance is a virtue.

here is one thing that you can do for yourself (slow but sure); a teacher advised me on a method for changing that really works:

1) DECIDE to change
2) decide WHAT to change
3) CHANGE as much as you can whenever you can
4) PRAISE yourself every time you make the change, no matter how much.

it is step 4 that most people don't realize is soooo important. it fixes the fact of the possibility of changing in ones mind, and enhances self esteem.
best wishes~

Support forums like PC are good. Blogging is good too. If you have the courage, you can create youtube videos.

An even better idea is to create your own support system in your community. There are many websites where you can create your own online support community. Some are free to create, some cost little money.

If you want to take it a step further, you can create a face-to-face social group that meets every week. There are many sites you can do this on.

It you want to build your own group in your own community, it will take time and effort. One of my friends created her own social group for sexually abused victims in her closed-minded community. She went from 1 member to 27 loving supportive members. It took her 4 years. You can accomplish anything, as long as you believe you can.

Think about moving away, if you can.

Are there any meet up groups in the area? Support groups? Mental Health association? Are you comfortable with a church community? Does your employer have an EAP?
Thanks for this!

Free (donation-based if anyone wants to donate or become a member) mental health support. NAMI is the largest mental health support organization in the nation. This is the main link to the website, but there should be a website for your location if you google it. You would want to find a NAMI Connection peer support group.

What type of support group are you looking for? What do you need support for?
When conservative communities don't provide support, sometimes you need to create the support and have others join you.

For example, my closed-minded community changed when one gay man stood up and held the only LGBT meetup group in this town's awful history. Now, the local church hosts LGBT meetup groups every week. And it only took one person to change the face of this once closed-minded town.

When you believe in yourself you can perform miracles.
