My brother is autistic and can’t work and does no physical activities and rarely leaves the house. I am guessing he walks about an average of 1,000 steps a day. He also has OCD and depression and is on medications including seroquel.

He is gaining a lot of weight very fast. I have lost a lot of weight and am continuing to lose.

Sometimes I’ll get fast food or candy or something and freak out about
The calories and change my mind about eating it. I’ll often give it to him.

Is it enabling him to give him my unhealthy food when he’s gaining so much weight? I hate to let food go to waste and he will eat it.

Should I not be doing this? My mom also buys him boxes of donuts and cartons of ice cream. I’m not sure why she’s doing that. I don’t feel like confronting her about it. I probably should just change my behavior if I’m doing something wrong.

Your thinking is correct. Please do not give him anything unhealthy to eat. Your mom should follow the same procedure. By giving him unhealthy food, you are adding more problems to his life. And it sounds like he already has a good number of issues. You guys all should come together and eat healthy for his well being. It is not only about being fat, eating unhealthy has more negative consequences then what is visible to the naked eye.
It is very sad to hear this

I would say it's definitely enabling on your mother's part. As for your part, I can understand about not wanting food to go to waste but it probably is bad for him. Perhaps you could look up the nutrition information of not so healthy foods before purchasing them, so that you will not feel the need to give it to your brother? Make sure you're 100% sure before making that purchase.

I have taken my sons off of drugs that cause a heavy weight gain. I would try to throw the food away, rather than exacerbate the problem.

Does he eat alot of fast foo like McDonalds and Burger King? This could be adding to the weight if so. Please don't give him candy either he will probably get sick on it too. good luck
