I plan on taking an Uber to work a couple times this year.

What are your experiences? I’m kind of anxious about it. But I don’t have any other options. Taking the day off really isn’t an option since I’ll be asking for so much time off later in the year.

Where I work it will only be about $8-$13 each way. How do I choose the least expensive vehicle?

I know people who take Uber daily. So I guess it will be ok.

I used it once when my battery died, I didn't realize it was just the battery at that moment. It was fine. I'd use them again. But one thing I noticed and perhaps why my boss gets fruatrated when her college aged daughter uses it, is the hold on the card factor. It holds the initial fee. Then you are charged the fee, so it's like holding twice the amount if that makes sense? It realeased and I only paid what I actually used but it was still a day or two. Fortunately it didn't wreak havoc. Other years and times in my life it really could have.
The driver was pleasant. I liked seeing the tracking feature available. I'd use their service again if opportunity arose.

My daughter uses Uber or Lyft fairly often and she likes it. I also have a friend who drives for Uber. I would totally trust her.
Thanks for this!

Uber is the best thing since sliced bread. It's cutting DUI's in half.

I've used Uber a lot and never had a problem. I don't know about differences in vehicle price. I would think a regular car would be the same price and maybe more for bigger vehicles like large SUVs or vans, but I don't know.

I use it when I travel. Not to get to work. But I don’t think there is much difference in price if you use regular sedan

I used it almost exclusively when I was in Edinburgh because I got sick of trying to figure out the local transit system. Only thing you have to watch out for is what I think are called “push” fares. For example, when I was trying to get back to my AirBnB on NYE, the fare was up to the equivalent of about $100 or more, because so many people are trying to catch an Uber, and they can do that. Same happened to me in Knoxville a few weeks ago on a Sunday evening when dinner-goers were catching cars back to the suburbs. But I’ve not noticed an issue in my town for random times, and when my friends and I go out, I don’t think we’ve ever had a problem.

I am surprised to hear that. I used it in major busy cities (both overseas and in the US) at all times and rate never changed. I didn’t take in the middle of the night so maybe that’s a difference? Did take it in the evenings. 100 would be understandable if going very far. No offense to Knoxville but it isn’t London. Crazy

I know, I was incredibly surprised, believe me. I live in a bigger city in Michigan (bigger and more interesting than Knoxville), and have NEVER seen fares that high. Probably why he didn't believe me when I said I couldn't afford Uber fare. He did live about a half-hour outside of the city. But yeah, from about 7pm to 9pm it was $70-$110. I even screenshot it. I finally caught one at 930 that was $20. Maybe it has to do with how many cars are driving? Events?

In Edinburgh I was regularly catching them for 3-7 pounds. Even on Hogmanay, it was only about 25-50 pounds right after midnight...which is comparable to that regular Sunday night in Knoxville. I'm guessing number of cars driving; there are a TON of Uber drivers in Edinburgh. I usually only had to wait a minute or two. *shrug*

I have a friend who drives for a smaller competitor. I should ask her.
