Hi everyone .
My therapist is on holiday next week im seeing him tonight ..I have managed 4 sessions so far and have covered quite a bit of my childhood . Because he is away next week I dont feel I can begin the next chapter and leave that open for 2 weeks. Im not great after each session I can be quite self destructive. I suppose my question is how do I tell him that i want to talk about the next few years but not tonight ! Without sounding uncooperative and unwilling to engage . And I know he will say well what do you want to talk about . My two worst questions are how do you feel ? And what do you want to talk about 🙈

What if you take control of the conversation from its start. There is no need to wait for those questions to be asked. Simply open the session with teling your therapist your concerns about what his holiday makes you feel off kilter and nervous. He may very well then try to put your mind at ease. What ought to happen at the very least is that he acknowledges your feelings about it. What a great opportunity it can be to review past sessions and discuss how they may have changed your emotional outlook.

Tell him exactly what you've told us. There's nothing wrong with your feelings about the situation at all and I believe he'll understand.
