Im not really big into ghosts or spirits being real, but I think I am one? Is this normal? like. ..do you think its possible. no one can hear or see me, and im not sure if im actually interacting with my environment. in a physical sense, its more ghostly. any people i see or hear talking feels...fake. and my body is also that of a ghost.
is this what being dead is like? is there other dead people online right now, and is this purgatory of some kind? |

Hi. No, don't feel stupid, it's a legitimate question you asked. I read your thread when you first posted it but since I don't have the thoughts or feelings you described, I didn't respond, obviously. But I must say, what you're describing did remind me of a psychological state known as dissociation. Have you heard of it? It's where a person feels disconnected from themselves, and maybe if the person didn't know what it was they were experiencing, perhaps they'd start to have speculations like yours. Just a thought. I found your post interesting but I hope you're going okay.

Hi, I also thought of dissociation. It's when someone doesn't feel like they're not in their body or that things aren't real. It's common if you had trauma.
I would talk about this with your therapist or doctor as there may be other psychological or medical causes. Don't be shy, many, many people have this and your therapist can help you understand why are you feeling this way (or recommend medication)

You know some cultures have beliefs that an ancestor may help you. So this must be a common feeling. One way i look at it is that we are made up of all our ancestors through our dna. So in this way we are connected to past worlds and people. This was a comfort to me.

The feeling you describe can be part of dissociation, depersonalization or derealization. In fact many mental health issues have this symptom which can feel very disconcerting. Please see your doctor or therapist for a diagnosis and treatment.

Depersonalization scared me the first time it happened after a trauma I had gone through. I was feeding horses at the ranch & had climbed up to get several bales of hay down & it was like I was above myself watching myself do this. Then someone said something to me. The me I was watching answered while I was wondering how in the world they knew what to answer. I quickly got my feeding done & went to the car. Didn't come back to feeling normal until I got home. It happened several other times after I left there too but hasn't happened in years now that I have mostly recovered from all my past stresses & trauma

If not disassociation, it could be a delusion. Walking dead delusions are one of the more common types. I've had some experiences with that. Scary stuff. I hope you're feeling better now.

carbinked, I'm so glad you're posted this. I've had the same feeling...or thought, or whatever it is. I've had such thoughts about myself and also about loved one (including pets). Not exactly a wonderful feeling/belief. I'm not sure of the cause of what you've described; I wish I knew. I think it could be PTSD - by that, I mean past trauma that pushed us so far beyond being able to cope that we felt that some part of us did die. Then that thought runs wild and becomes what you've described. Just one possibility.
I know, too, that believing that one is dead can be a psychotic symptom. It all just depends upon other beliefs, symptoms, ability to function, and so on. |
