Is anyone else able to just stop specific things they do? Kind of like snap out of it but not exactly? I felt like I was emailing my therapist too much even though she didn’t say anything. I was able to stop emailing her very suddenly.

Is anyone else like this? I guess it’s called quitting cold turkey.

Dear Mountaindewed,

I have experienced what you describe. In my case, it was only time and luck that seemed to help although I imagine there must be treatments available. Since this didn't go on in my life for very long, I never sought treatment although I probably will if this ever comes back and distressed me. Hope you find something that helps you.

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

I quit smoking cold turkey. Well wasn’t successful first time but it worked second time a year later. I did have a system to it though but it was cold turkey. I still remember my last cigarette. I never stopped wanting to smoke but I sure never touched another cigarette. But yeah I know how to abruptly stop something.

No, for me, I've always found that my 'old habits die hard' as they say. Old habits and old behaviors. But when there comes a time that I suddenly feel I'm absolutely sick of doing something over and over, then, yes, I'll just stop. But that moment may take some time. For me.
Thanks for this!

Personally, I need more help with stopping negative behaviors. Usually, I need outside help, such as from a therapist, to stop things I want to stop doing. For me, willpower can only get me so far.

For me, I have to be in a certain mindset to quit a behaviour.. kind of like, "Ok, enough of this," and move on because I really wanted to.

I was told this is a form of racing thoughts.
