If your order was delayed. The tracking information was broken. It was past the delivery date. Then you contact the company several days past the delivery date. Just in case it was late. So like a week after it was supposed to arrive you contact them. Then the company asks for your information and the tracking number, and says the package was lost. So they reship the package. You get it a couple days later, but then the lost package shows up 2 weeks later.

Would you be like “cool. I scored a free pair of jeans.” Or would you feel guilty and try to somewhat fix the situation by contacting the company and explaining things?

Frankly, I would keep the jeans. It was their mistake to begin with and returning is a big hassle for you AND for them.

I would (& have) contacted the companies I have had this happen to me with. Both times they told me to go ahead & keep the items when I offered to have them charge me for them. If I hadn't done that I would have felt like I was stealing the items. At least when I called & told them what happened & they said don't worry it was their choice. It is WRONG to assume you are entitled to the item just because there was a screw up. Most companies are good about letting you keep the items....but it should be their choice....not yours.

I’ve contacted the company in this case (in fact something else I ordered recently went missing, the person sending it has posted a replacement and told me to keep the first if it turns up. It’s unlikely to, now, but would be handy if it did). Big companies and smaller private sellers do appreciate the honesty.

Ok I contacted them.

But please don’t come at me like that and tell me I’m doing something wrong. I’m also not assuming that I am entitled to them or that I am stealing them. I actually never said that at all in my post. You said that about me. I was just asking what I should do. It was their fault to begin with.

I talked with them via web chat a few minutes ago and they want the jeans back. They probably think I am an idiot for contacting them since there wasn’t a double charge. But I try to be as honest as I can in specific situations. Especially ones like these.

They can trace this sort of stuff.

Now I just hope they don’t take the charge off my card once I return them thinking I only got one pair and am returning it instead of a replacement.

Now I got an email from them this morning saying my refund is being processed.

This is too much of a headache for me to continue dealing with. I have spoken with them twice. I did what they told me to do. I sent them back with the mailing slip. They said it didn’t matter which pair since they were both the same. I just sent back the exact package I received the other day. With the correct paperwork. Hopefully they can look at their records and fix it.

But I am just not going to deal with this anymore.

Generally it is a good idea to contact the company, especially if you want to order from them again. However, as many above already wrote, in many cases the company will let you keep the one you received before. After all, it is a hassle for all involved. You getting two for the price of one will not break the bank of the company. Especially for just a pair of jeans.

I got an email today with a $19 e gift card from them. Then the email before that was one saying my refunded was completed. I didn’t even pay $19 for them. Not sure where they came up with that price.

Whatever I guess. Although I would have preferred the jeans instead of the gift card. Since their jeans are not $19 anyways.

That bothers me, too.

There's no call for it. We are honest with each other and polite...usually.

They won't bother you. You can keep it. They do it so that they don't have to hear from their boss. It becomes a situation where they put blame on eachother and have the escape. The customer is gifted to keep shut.
