I am in the Hate 'em category and so right now am freaking out because we are having a severe T-storm. It is raining very hard and lots of thunder and lightning. I woke up to it.

I know there isn't anything to be scared of but growing up in Tornado Alley and being away at summer camp and having to run for cover every other day wears on a person. I think that is why I am scared of storms. Tyger doesn't much like them either so we can be scared together.

It is supposed to this all night so I guess I won't be sleeping much tonight because on the news earlier tonight they said we are in the moderate risk area for a tornado and I am always scared to death I will sleep through the siren.

So what about you t-storms love em? Hate em?

I remember as a young child lying on my bed and looking out the window and watching the rain and lightening. I loved the thunder and lightening. So, I have always loved storms, especially at nighttime when the lightening is more visible.

~blah~ I don't like them. I can sleep through them if I am already asleep but if I am awake. It was storming something terrible last night. I know I am odd but the lighting show doesn't bother me, I see why people think it's pretty, its the thunder that scares the crap outta me. One of my twins, Lily, was scared to death of storms. She would run & dive in one of our laps and sit and shake the whole time it was storming, she'd have to sleep with us and if it woke her up she screamed bloody murder. She is 4 1/2 now. ~fingers crossed~ that she's gotten over her fear a bit this year.

I personally love Thunderstorms! I love when it rains-its so calming and relaxing. Its the perfect time to cuddle up with a good book. I think that the thunder just adds to the whole 'rainy-relaxing' mood.

It's kind of funny, actually. When I was a child, I was terrified of thunder storms. Now, I am in love with them. I love to stand out in the rain and feel the wind blowing across my face. I love to watch for the bolts of lightning, and then wait for the crack and roll of the thunder. For me it is energizing. I am also one that is fascinated by tornado's to a certain degree. I've never seen one, never had to run for cover, but I have thought about doing one of those tornado chasing vacation trips some day.

Don't get me wrong...I wouldn't want to be in the middle of a tornado, not knowing where it is or where it's going to show up. That sounds absolutely terrifying. But for some reason, I would feel more in control if I were watching from a distance with people who chase the storms.

I think that is a false sense of control though!! Tornado's are very unpredictable!!!

So, yay for mild to moderate thunderstorms, and nay to severe tornadic thunderstorms!!

I like this post!

I thunderstorms. And tornado warnings. And hurricanes. I stared right at a tornado barreling towards my home one time, and it lifted maybe two blocks from us -- had nightmares about them for years, but I still love the excitement of a tornado warning. And I've been through a hurricane, Opal in 1995.

I've also been through an earthquake (Loma Prieta in 1989, the San Francisco one). I could do without another one of those. And I'm not crazy about blizzards, having grown up in Ohio. You'll notice I now live in Alabama....

Thought I better edit to say -- I don't love the destruction and the human cost of these events. It's the nature of extreme weather I love.

OMG!!! I hate earthquakes. I seriously freak out!! I grew up in California and was in the 1992 Landers quake (7.1 richter), and the 1994 Northridge quake (6.8 richter I think). Was also in about 5 other major quakes (over 6.0 richter) that rocked California. I felt the Loma Prieta quake and I was in LA but it wasn't bad for us, just a mild temblor in LA, but GOD what it did to the Bay Area was disasterous.

I live in Oregon now and I moved back to Cali for 4 mos. in 2004. I packed up and moved back to Oregon after I felt my first quake. I have PTSD symptoms related to being through so many....just can't take 'em.

We don't get particularly 'bad' ones here. But last night we had the worst one in my memory. I have two rabbits and this thunderstorm just came out of nowhere. I had to run out and fetch them in, the poor things were shaking.

When I was younger I was scared of them, I think most children are. Now, I'm not so bad unless it's whilst I'm trying to sleep. I think you're more aware of them then.
As I was growing up I did used to like counting the distance between the flashes and crashes. I think it's a good way to get children relaxed during them.

Well, I live in an area that has been in a drought for 3 years so I do love them because they tend to bring a lot of rain However, we also get an unbelievable amount of lightning strikes so there is a scary quality to them too. Lightning likes us so much that, unfortunately, there have been incidents of people being struck while enjoying the beach on a day that is sunny with storm clouds merely approaching.

I am hard of hearing and I don't hear rain at night since I don't have my hearing aid on, but when there is lighting that wakes me up each time it flashes! grr lol

My cat does NOT like thunderstorms. I feel bad when he's home alone when they happen

Then there's the hurricanes...
