Oh my!!

A part of me knows that one requires a tremendous amount of core body strength to pole dance....yet I see this video and my head just goes...

"Seriously??"

Could this be an Olympic Sport in the making?

Actually, this could be part of a gymnastics event. Gymnasts would make phenomenal pole dancers
with their muscle strength, coordination and grace.

They could take pole dancing to a whole new level with less stripper-esque moves and more athleticism.
Maybe that would make it interesting to watch.

Awesome! The Olympics mostly bores me to tears, but this is a competition that I'd DEFINITELY watch!

This reminds me of the Cirque de Soleil (the only circus I enjoy; sexy and no animal "tricks" degradation ). (eg, I can't stand to see majestic tigers reduced to jumping through hoops!)

I'm glad to see that men are included. Why should women have all the fun?

But what was that monk getup about?!

There's a couple of places in SF that teach pole dancing. After seeing this video, I might try it (someday). Looks like a great workout!

for this! (We all have to start somewhere, and this is where I am)

Mike

It crosses the line for me. The Olympics are supposed to be about SPORTS - physical strength and agility - not sex.

I find it really sad that young girls are encouraged to spread their legs in order to attract a boy. Seriously, do you really want your daughters to grow up to be strippers?

I also find it sad that sex has been reduced to a recreational activity in mainstream society. IMO, it's the most powerful expression of love. It's sacred and special. In today's world, it appears it means nothing.

I don't think pole dancing should be an Olympic event. I don't think strippers should be role models for our girls, and I don't think convicted criminals and gangbangers should be role models for our boys.

I hope I didn't spoil this thread. I'm just a little ticked off at adults these days. They forget about the example they are setting for children.

I sure didn't work so hard to grow up and become an adult just so I could waste my adult years setting an example for children! I like kids, but come on. If the world is going to revolve around children, what's the point of growing up?

If you're only into "sacred and special" sex, your spouse is probably already cheating on you to get the fun and dirty kind, anyway. Look at the stats.

Can you blame him/her? Why do you think affairs are so common in this society? Could it have something to do with ... hmm... our repressive and hypocritical attitudes regarding sex?

If we all took up the spirit of pole dancing and stopped being a society of erotophobes, I bet the divorce rate would drop dramatically and couples would be much, much happier.

"Sports" is just sublimated libido anyway, even the Olympic kind. For instance, the men's swimming competition is a big sausage party. Those Speedos are just as revealing as what the pole dancers in the video were wearing. Maybe it should be banned because children might see it -- oh my goodness!

And sex hasn't just recently been "reduced" to a recreational activity in mainstream society. Sex has always been a recreational activity in mainstream society. And it always will be, because humans are horny animals. The fun ones are, anyway.

I say that erotic energy is good! Go pole dancers!

Hey, sorry everyone, that was snarky. I don't know why that point of view regarding sex is like a red to a bull to me. It's not like I'm some big sex athlete!

But I have to say that every woman in my family (my mother and three younger sisters) would be excellent pole dancers, so maybe that's why I'm defending pole dancers so much here.

Mom and my three little sisters were all cheerleaders. Two of my sisters -- identical twins -- have gone all over the world in international cheerleading competitions.

And yes, they spread their legs. And of course, this naturally attracts the boys. In technical cheerleader parlance, this is called "the splits". My sainted grandmother could also do the splits, in her seventies.

I've seen my little sisters do every move in that video, only instead of a pole, they used other girls.

So this kind of dancing is already in our midst, even in our schools; some people just can't see it for what it really is. Let's face it; it's sexy and it's supposed to be sexy. The point is to "fire up" the team. It is using sex in the service of aggression (sports).

And society has survived. Or is cheerleading bad?

LOL cypher. As rocky as my marriage was, my ex tells me he never found anyone better in bed. Trust me, I know how to make a man smile from ear to ear.

True, when I first started dating my husband, I was a bit of a prude. He had no idea how many cold showers I had to take after our dates. I did that because I wanted more than sex. I wanted the opportunity to fall in love with ALL of him, and I did. I'll never forget the day when I gave him my heart. It knocked his socks off.

As a result, our marriage is strong. He knows I would never spread my legs for another man, and I know him well enough to know he'd never cheat on me.

When my son got his driver's license at 16, he asked a 15 y.o. girl out on a first date. When he picked her up and she stepped into the car, the first thing she said to him was "Wanna f***?"

Casual sex is fine, but it's on the same level as masterbation - just with a partner. It doesn't even come close to the power of sex with someone you love with your heart and soul. That poor girl my son asked out on a date will probably never know the power of love - or self-respect.

It's not mandatory to care about the welfare of future generations, or other people for that matter. It's not mandatory to consider the consequences of what we do. I just wish more adults would act like adults instead of refusing to grow up and acting like horny teenagers.

I agree, Kathy. Of course we all want what you and your husband have. It sounds like you did it just right.

I grew up simultaneously in an ultra-liberal family and an ultra-repressive Southern environment, and it made me a bit skitzy and radical I'm afraid. If I perceive Society (or anyone speaking for "it") trying to "should on me" I get outraged and rebellious. Suddenly I'm a 9yr old again.

I misunderstood you and I apologize! I feel sorry for that young girl too -- Mike

Oh...great!!! I knew it!!! Now even the amphibians are doing it!!!

Get your Pole on!!

I know that I'm the one that started this post...so I'm gonna be the one to keep it on track.

I posted it because I thought it was hilarious...ironic...and a little bit....woah!!!

I have not heard that it is going to be an Olympic Sport....That was posed as a humorous question.

Oh yeah.....Pole Dancing does not = Sex or sexual deviancy!! It has nothing to do with cheating on your partner, or being immature, or being a degrading person.

There are some people who feel the only way to get by in life is to throw their legs up and give it a whirl. For some it's an addiction and they like the attention they get from men/women. For others it is a means to an end that puts food on the table for their family.

I'm sure there are other jobs that society would consider to be more "noble", but realistically a person needs to do what they're good at and if it's going to bring them the money they need to support the family then they'll do what they have to. And working the pole does not = working the streets either. It has nothing to do with infidelity, or worth as a person.

So....Pole Dancing as Sport....."HA HA!! Funny; who knew, right!!"

Pole dancing as a sport...why not. They've taken something as sacred as swimming and...

...synchronized it.

When will it end...what a world, what a world...

That's exactly how I took it, Elysium, and replied with jest.

Take care.

It's not going to be an Olympic Sport? I'm devastated! I've been practicing on the basketball hoop pole down at the local playground all day in my Speedos! And it's cold! (Shrinkage!*)

I just starting using a lap top and for some reason I can't even watch the darn video LOL. It's been an interesting thread with stimulating conversation between Cypher(Mr Snarky) and KathyM(smile maker) LOL. I have to say I agree with you both. BTW Cypher - you had your chance to do pole dancing in the games section(Fortunately/Unfortunately) but you were too expensive LOL.

Elysium - I know why you made the joke about it being an olympic sport because it takes incredible core strength to manouver around that pole. Honestly I could see this included in gymnatics. On a more serious note - one thing that does bug me about the olympics is the way women's volleyball players wear such scimpy outfits. Wish me luck in getting my computer to play these clips. If we could all learn pole dancing we would be in tip top shape.

Maybe so, but under what circumstances would a person require such a skill?

LOL Kathy - as Cypher mentioned maybe some husbands would be alot happier - except in your case, it might be dangerous, since your husband's already SMILING - wouldn't want his head to spin off.

It would be nice having abs of steel.

Lynn - You're right. Then it would really make my ex-husband jealous. He already blames me for my husband's bad back...says I broke him.

The skill might come in handy if people take up the sport of riding and racing giraffe's.

After Oprah had it on her show, I started noticing ads in our local paper - hosting pole dancing parties. Thanks for the laugh Kathy
