I need a big hug. I now have full body strep on top of major depression. Aaaarrrggghhh! I am completely non-functioning now ; ( Does anyone know any home remedies I could try? I'm 36 hours into the antibiotics with no improvement.

1. It's probably time to call the doctor about the antibiotics not working. 2. Home remedies: If you are over the legal drinking age in your country: 1 shot of whisky, a squirt of lemon juice, honey to taste, in a mug of hot water. The whiskey numbs your throat while lemon and honey are natural germ fighters...warm water feels good and helps keep you hydrated. If you're not over the legal drinking age or don't drink make it without the whiskey. Chicken noodle soup or even just drinking chicken broth are also good. Take some ibuprofen (if you're allowed - check drug interactions) for the pain..and rest. You can also try one of the numbing throat sprays. Slippery elm lozenges (from a health food store) and zinc lozenges help too. 3. If you've been on antibiotics for more than 5 days with no results you have to go back to the doctor, the strain you have may be resistant to that antibiotic. I always ask for a shot because the medicine gets into your system faster and makes you better faster. Sorry, that turned out longer than I meant it to... just wanted to give you options. You're welcome to PM me if you want more/different ones. |

Thank you! I am well over the drinking age, so I will add whiskey to my shopping list. i was wondering when I should go back to the dr, I'll split the difference and give her a call on Wednesday if my glands are still huge. It's not really the sore throat that bothers me, its the lymphodenapthy. I can't even turn my head! thank you for your help, wise kitty!

If you can't turn your head you can try a warm pack (heating pad or those rice things you heat in the microwave..my personal favorite) around your neck, it should help loosen things up. Or a nice hot bath. Good luck!

Aww, I'm sorry. So often, physical ailments can worsen our depression, which then worsens the physical ailment.... the vicious cycle from the pit of hell.
Chicken soup is good, and for the acute bronchitis aggravated by asthma that I am currently going through, the doctor also suggested other hot beverages and/or a warm bath. Even if you don't actually drink the coffee or tea, holding your head over the steaming cup and breathing it in is soothing. |

((colder)) - so sorry you're sick. Can you explain what 'full body Strep' is. I agee if you don't see an improvement soon, you should notify your doctor. I hope you feel better soon.

what I meant by 'full body strep' was that I feel like I got hit by a truck, full body aches, swollen lymph nodes everywhere, shooting pains down my arms and legs, high fever, fatigue, chills, plus the usual sore throat.
Thanks for all of the hugs guys! I'm about 75% better today, tho my neck is still huge : ( My daughter doesn't understand why she can't hug me right now and so my heart is breaking too. |

I meant that I tested positive for strep but I felt like my whole body was under attack. Fever, chills, muscle aches, weakness, etc. I started feeling better after a new prescription. Thanks for the advice! |
