The cost of maintaining and running a physical store is just too much compared to the cost of maintaining a website, especially as people move away from physical medium. Across town we had a Blockbuster that split in half after a rainstorm... Netflix doesn't have that problem.

The brick and mortar video store is likely to vanish within the next year or two. Chalk it up to so many more efficient ways to deliver rentals. Redbox is 1.00, or I do mine through Time Warner On Demand, There are also various means through the internet like net flicks, gamefly etc...
Newspapers will not be far behind... |

Our Blockbuster closed a good while back. Besides Netflix, we also have those Redbox and other "machines" where people can check out a movie overnight for a dollar.

Am I the only one who is sad to see video stores go? Not Blockbuster in particular, but I suppose video stores in general. I liked going and physically getting films. Netflix only just came out where I live recently and their selection isn't great at the moment.

Me too. I remember when I bought my first VCR, a long time ago, and how exciting it was to go to the videostore and browse the movies. That excitement remained through the years. Now we have comcast, and get pretty much all of our movies on demand. It's just so much more convenient, with two small kids. All the Hollywood video stores recently closed, and Blockbuster will be next. Not much left here. It's sad. Just think, a few years from now our kids are going to ask us, "What's a video store?".
