I went on a long hike today with a pal, it was just the two of us because someone was sick and someone else was busy. We hiked out to the old tin mines. It was relatively flat for the bulk of it. It's kind of a funny feeling to see snow (well, sort of) on the ground and to be sweating so much. We started at about 12:30 and got back to car after 5:30, and we didn't even get to go everywhere we wanted to; only managed to see the north mine, gotta go back to see the south mine. That mine was so dark, it went back alot farther than I anticipated, but I had a flashlight. Seriously, why would you tag the inside of mine in the mountains. I saw a mule deer on the way up and, of all things, a javelina when we left the mine. After, oh, 7 miles I'm pretty tired and my ankle hurts... but it was worth it.

Really glad you had such a great hike! I love hiking and my dogs sees to it that I get out on the trails every day! It's very therapeutic. Hope you can go back and explore the south mine soon!!

That does sound like a very interesting hike, and well worth the time and effort. Just to reach the mine is accomplishment enough, but how cool is it that you also got to see the animals you did?

I love hiking and haven't done a strenuous one in some months. I especially like going alone sometimes, for the opportunity for contemplation and encounters with wildlife.

Thanks for sharing your adventure here, it was cool to read about it. And yeah, why would people tag in an abandoned mine? I wish they'd stop doing it anywhere and everywhere, to tell the truth...
Thanks for this!

Sounds likea nice walk.

Tag.....as in graffiti?

Maybe it's just human nature to have the desire to leave your mark on this earth to prove you've been here. Some take it more seriously than others.

A long time ago, I noticed my son's name neatly carved into my dining room table. When he denied doing it, I asked him who else would have carved his name in his handwriting on our table? Why would his friends carve his name, why would a stranger carve his name, why would I or my husband carve his name there?

All I got was this....

He was just a little boy who had just learned how to print his name. He had every right to be at that table. It was fun watching him squirm at the dinner table as we pondered who could have possibly done such a thing. I never had it removed. Over the years, it became too precious to me.

We used to take our son out to the woods to hike with us when he was little. We were following a deer path one day when we came upon an open area with a picnic table. It was a good place to rest, so we sat at the picnic table and looked at the beauty all around us as he played around the picnic table.

We heard him ask "What's that?" He was pointing to the ground - the entire area was covered in used condoms! It wasn't an appropriate time to teach him about the "birds and bees" or the need for "safe sex." We told him it was just someone else's garbage - hardly a treasure. We pretended they were landmines, and made it out safely. My husband and I had been so busy focusing on the beauty off in the distance, We should have been paying closer attention to the "beauty" below our feet!

Not looking at him is about keeping aspects of self hidden/secret. We know that is not the healthy choice. Keep working on this - you will get there.
