I heard on the news, there are blizzard warnings in 9 states including Michigan. This means my area Ontario, which is across from Michigan is part of that. It's supposed to start around 7:00 pm. Strangely it said there might be 'thunder & snow'. Should be interesting.

Yes it seems like every 2 days, I'm out there shoveling snow. We have 2 snow blowers in the garage and both need repairs that we can't afford ATM. Over here in Canada, they rarely close the schools but the buses won't run. I wish they would just close it, so we parents don't have to drive the kids. They don't do work on those days - instead they have fun...so the kids don't want to stay home lol. Tomorrow they will though because I don't want to drive in a foot of snow.

Yeah - I'm not looking forward to the storm either - luckily I take transit - mostly subway to work, so I should be ok. We had a discussion though at work today about coming in, and we're officially open so technically we're all supposed to come in. Some people have the option of working from home though, and they were told to take advantage of it.

The real part of the storm is not supposed to hit us until tomorrow but it has started with snow and sleet, 5" already in a few hours. An hour drive home from the one school campus just now took me 3, feeling a little bug-eyed at the moment. I'm concerned because for some reason, the evening classes have not been cancelled at the other campus, so I have to head back out later for a 7:00 class since attendance is mandatory or I wouldn't go. Fortunately it is normally only a 30 minute drive but will have to leave earlier. Perhaps they will cancel by then, let's hope!

Ohh I hope they do cancel your class.....it sounds dangerous to go out again, since it took you so long to get home. If you do drive, please go slowly and be safe.

I have a friend who grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario--so I can imagine thunder and snow together!

I am so glad I live in the Southern U.S.!

The blizzard has arrived here in Kansas City MO. The warning was set for parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
We have at least 8inches on the ground. I just recieved a call from my DBT group that group is not meeting tomorrow. After the snow ends they are calling for VERY cold temperatures. This is not my idea of fun. Praying for all who are affected by this storm.

I live in Texas and we got snow last night. People here are calling it a blizzard and I rolled my eyes and explained that 2 inches of snow and nasty icy roads are not, in fact, a blizzard. Good luck to all of you in the blizzard area. Stay safe and warm.

I'm in Kansas. We had light freezing rain yesterday and moderate snow today (lots of very small flakes), with extreme cold temps and sustained high winds. Visibility has not been good with that mix. The public transit system and the schools both shut down here today due to the road conditions.

(((chandlerT660))) - sorry to hear you're stuck at a truck stop. I hope you'll be on your way soon. Well, it's started snowing - there's already about 5 in from the previous days and now there's an additional 3 and this is just the beginning. It's windy, which makes it worse. I'm happy I have lots of food - that's the up side lol. I hope everyone will be okay and remember to slow down while driving.

Thanks for the replies everyone and yes Butterfli42481 - how are things where you live? Jewels - sounds like you're in the same boat as I am here. Well, the weather reports were accurate - we got a foot of snow and it's not the fluffy light snow - it's sooooo heavy. You can't push it along with the shovel -all I can do is do one shovel at a time. I just made 2 trails for tires down the driveway and one down the sidewalk....I finally gave up and couldn't do the front driveway. It's still snowing and it's not over. Surprisingly the schools were officially closed. I agree people should avoid driving when it's like this to avoid being rescued.

Have been worried about everyone. I have been watching this storm on Weather.com.....heard on the news the other day when I was at my friends that they were thinking there might be an ice storm along with this in the region between the snow & the rain....were saying up to an inch of ice. I was worried so much about that area after going through the ice storm here 2 years ago & the weeks of electric being off & it ended up being a disaster area....have been praying that this storm won't be that for any of those states between the rain we were getting & the blizzard snow above the ice.......was watching the pink (ice) area going through with the storm.

Hope everyone is safe......this was definitely our largest winter storm yet......wish we would have gotten a little snow out of this one....but all we got was rain & more rain & wind....very heavy wind.

Yesterday, I arrived home around 3pm with an empty tank of gas. I came in the house to do something before going out & pouring gas into my truck from my gas can. Somehow I got distracted from going back out before the storm hit & never did get back outside. I was sitting in my bedroom & all of a sudden I heard this loud noise. I couldn't place what the noise was & then I heard it again. Sounded like a door slamming. Initially I thought it came from upstairs & couldn't figure out how that sound could be happening when everything was closed up. Decided to get up & check out what caused the noise. Looked down stairs & there was the front door standing wide open. Grrrr.....somehow I had forgotten to fasten the dead bolt on the front door & had just closed it thinking I was going to be going back outside. I have taped around the door on the inside because I can't find thick enough weather stripping to seal the door.....so the tape had helped hold the door shut until the wind really started blowing.....had ended up slamming the door open.....glad I caught it when I did.....this wind has been so very bad with very low temps & heavy rain at times.

Hope everyone is safe & sound.....even if burried in show...just praying that no one is blanketed in ice........I know for me that even though the ice is so very beautiful....it's so much more dangerous than the snow or rain.

Thanks for the prayers for everyone ((Eskie)). Luckily we don't have ice but the snow is extremely heavy. ATM the individual flakes are more like heavy round balls. For the schools to actually close here, there has to be alot of snow lol. I agree, it's the ice storm that's the worst. I remember 9 yrs ago at this time, we had an ice storm and the power went out. My youngest was a baby, so we had to go sleep in a hotel. If she was older, we all could have bundled up, but she was premature, so we couldn't take chances.

Your lucky ((madisgram))...I'm jealous lol. I don't mind the snow, except for the shovelling. I'm all set with groceries, so I don't have to go out. I'm actually a very good driver in the snow. When I was young I actually learned to drive when it was winter. A neighbor of ours was almost stuck and it was because he was spinning the tires...that's the worst thing to do lol. The girls love the snow...they've got their snow pants on and playing.

Unfortunately many people who aren't fit, try to shovell and they end up having heart attacks. I was actually sweating when I came in...quite a workout.

In the southern states, a few flurries is enough to cancel half the town. I spent the first eight years of my life in Alabama, so I know how the south deals with snow.

Currently, I'm in Michigan, and my school was officially closed at 10:00pm last night. Looking out the window now, I see snow coming all the way up to our front porch, and still there's no signs of it stopping.

that is the worst.....going out in the cold during these storms & starting to sweat......that was what got to me in the ice storm & almost ended up with hypothermia.....I was so sweating after feeding my neighbors 20 horses....came into my freezing house with no electricity & no heat & started to shiver so bad. Initially I was afraid to take off the cloths I had on because of thinking how cold I would be before betting on dry cold cloths. I actually started to sort of black out from how cold I was....finally a little voice in my head told me GET THOSE CLOTHS OFF....quick threw on dry cloths & wrapped up in all the blankets & my dogs & got as warm as I possibly could.

It's important to be very careful & not leave on the wet cloths that we have been sweating in & keeping as warm as possible (hopefully the electricity stays on).

Can really see how people try to push themselves shoveling snow when they haven't been doing any exercise...it's just something you feel you HAVE to do......many heart attacks to occur because of this.

Take care everyone.....the one good thing is that each day is closer to spring & melting away all the load of snow that we have gotten this winter. Even down here in KY, we have had more snow than in many past years according to everyone who has been living here. Think I heard in the Farmers Almanac that it was supposed to be a snowy winter....lol....I never believe them until I see it actually happen....guess they weren't too far off. Maybe I will listen to what they have to say next time.....but wouldn't have done anything different anyway......some things just are......the weather is one of those things

Smart thinking, Eskie. Wear dry clothes only, especially this time of year.
Wet clothes wearing= bad. Really bad in the cold.

I believe I've experienced my fair share of seeing snow. Maybe seeing a flower bloom would be nice, but no. There's ice now.

LOL on my front porch....you literally couldn't see the steps...just a drift of snow. Since I was out shovelling, we got another 2inches.
