Okay, so, I'm 6 weeks pregnant, and I'm looking for any advice I can get....

Morning sickness blows.

I can't keep anything down, including ginger ale, saltines, etc. I've been eating saltines before I get out of bed in the morning, trying to keep my stomach full, eating before bed, etc. It just all comes back up. I work full time and can't keep puking while I'm trying to work. I called my doctor today and got a prescription that he said was safe for the baby, but I'm still a little wary to try it. Anything else I can try? What helped all you other moms?

Hi LylaJean - fortunately for me, I didn't get morning sickness with either of my 2 pregnancies. If the doctor prescribed this, I'm fairly sure its safe but if you want to wait that's fine. Here's what you can try - keep doing the cracker thing before you get out of bed. Buy some fresh ginger root - peel and slice a 11/2 inch piece and boil on low for 5 mins then add a green tea bag. It can be drank like this, but most people aren't crazy about it. It will feel warm on your throat and is known to be good for nausea. You could make this ahead of time and sweeten it if you like and put it in a water bottle ...drink it cold while at work.

You can also buy ginger capsules but ask your doctor first...I'm sure its fine though. You may be able to find this acupressure wristband that's fits on your wrist like a watch. On the inner wrist, right at the crease where your hand bends...there's a well known point for nausea. You can even press there with your thumb from the other hand - do this on both wrists. Ask your local pharmacy if they have these wrist acupressure bands. Good luck and I hope you'll be lucky and have it subside after the 4th month. Congratulations again on your pregnancy. Here's a link for the wristband:

Over here we have camphor blocks, not sure if it's got another name, but they look like large menthol sweets.

I used to put 4 blocks in a jug of water, and wait for it to draw. Once the water's menthol, it's ready to drink.

Not the most pleasant thing to drink, but half a glass cleared my nausea in less than 5minutes.

It's 1 home remedy I swear by.

C0NGRATZ ON YOUR PREGNANCY!

Thank you both! I had heard about the wrist bands but hadn't heard if they actually work. The husband is on his way to walgreens now to pick up the prescription, and I guess I'm probably miserable enough to take it. Thanks for the ginger root tea idea, I'm going to try it!

I googled camphor, and in the US it's illegal because it has been proven to be toxic... Maybe not the best idea for me?

Lynn, PM me and tell me what the status update is? I've been taking a break from PC (Not by choice, but by circumstance) and I feel out of the loop!

Toxic? No way, there must be a different camphor. I'm talking bout a natural herb that's used in many remedies...

Wish I could be of more help...

Edit. I googled some, and I found out that synthetic camphor is widely used in the US as a insect repellent!

Natural camphor, found on the bark of a tree in India is what I'm talking about, and is most commonly available in the form of a topical cream, used to treat muscle and joint cream.

Don't know what you call the form of camphor that is for ingestion tho...

I had read that, too. I saw though that the topical cream can be absorbed through your skin and be toxic, and that if camphor is ingested over 50 mgs it can be lethal. Who knows what's really true, though. They can say anything on the internet!

My doctor gave me promethazine and I took half a tablet, still fighting dry heaves though. *sigh* This is the pits.

If the over-the-counter things/foods do not work, I would ask the doc for Zofran ( generic: ondansetron). Given the FDA category as not known to affect the fetus and for the success stories I have heard of it helping with the n/v, it is what I would ask for if the other things did not help.

They should be happy to call in the other for you if you decide to go this route instead. Take good care and hang in there. Know that it will pass.

Unfortunately, I can't offer much in the way of morning sickness, but I really wanted to tell you congratulations!!!

I did find a little on the camphor thing. Is this close to what you were talking about Trippin?

Thanks ya'll. Unfortunately Fresia, Zofran costs $160 for me to get, and insurance does not cover it. The Promethazine has helped, as long as I give it time to kick in and I don't take it on an empty stomach. Right now I'm dying for a sub from Subway, and I have to wait a loooong hour and a half before they open! The last couple days with promethazine have helped, though.

Try apricot nectar it coats the stomach tastes really good, it really worked for me. Also good for you and the baby. Worked better than saltines. See if your husband can bring you a glass before you get out of bed.

Are you in the US? You can get those "PregoPops" (I think that's what they're called), they're like hard candy and did wonders for my morning sickness. You can find them at Babies'R'us or maybe even at Motherhood Maternity.

Good luck, morning sickness is no fun. And CONGRATULATIONS!!

They're really awesome, I always carried a few in my purse.

Just found the link:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=2470712

I wouldn't buy a 3 pack though, there's a ton in one of those tubs. I didn't even finish one tub.
