I don't think it's weird at all. I find it relaxing.

Not weird at all. Done it plenty of times. Like it was said, take something to read and just be sure you still yip 20% and they'll remember you the next time. If your hungry you have to do what you have to do. Be proud and show them that and you'll get the service you deserve.

I dont beleive that going to a restaurant is weird at all. You can bring a book to read, your laptop or simply observe your surroundings and view how others communicate amongst each other. Taking a step back to observe your surroundings is not only interesting but smart.

I really enjoy when I go out and eat alone. It's my "me" time away from the daily constraints of responsibility at home. In fact, I went out to lunch by myself on Valentine's Day and the hostess seating me wished me a Happy Valentine's Day. I didn't feel awkward or uncomfortable at all and wished her the same. It was a pleasant day.

I'm a member of the majority here: going out to eat alone is great fun and very enjoyable. Particularly in empty restaurants. Take a book or a notebook. Read or think and jot things down. Eat and drink to your own heart's content. No one to entertain. No one to please. No other person's constraints or requirements to pay attention to. No. I've just reviewed my entire life's eating experiences with others in restaurants. Eating alone is far superior to eating with anyone else in a restaurant environment. There are holiday eating experiences, of course, that just wouldn't be holiday eating experiences if they didn't involve lots of others. Those are different. But if and when you're going out and eating a for-pay meal in a restaurant, you can't beat solitude. Huh-uh.
