My computer pisses me off so bad when it starts lagging, so I start yelling and cussing at it. It does it every day usually at the worst possible time, such as when I have only one more thing to finish up on the computer before doing something else. Also, when I leave it and return back, it's slow for awhile before getting into sync, as though it were punishing me for neglecting it. It should be using the downtime productively, catching up and ready to go when I return. It's a royal b&)#@&$!

If it's being slow maybe run a virus scan and if nothing comes up try a program called CCleaner, and use it to clean the registry, it helped my computer.

My computer is the best! I have a 24" custom built iMac with 3.06GHz, 8GB of RAM, and 1024GB Hard Drive. Never crashed or slowed down once! .

I'm no geek but most computers running windows will slow down after several hours. Mr V's may be an exception but with 8Gb of Ram it may just not be noticeable.
Reboot periodically or get a program like Jet Clean or Advanced SystemCare 5 by IObit.
And don't forget to analyze to see if a defrag would help.

I have a MacBookPro, also an iPad3. No slow-down, no crashes, no blue-screen-of-death. I don't know why it took me over 25 yrs to make the leap from PCs to Apples. My only regret is that I didn't did it sooner.

Some virus programs are also known for slowing the crap out of computers. Norton and mcafee are the worst. In recent years they have gotten better though as I have heard. I use AVG. Another thing is how many start up programs are running on your computer (the ones that launch when you turn on the pc) some people have soooo many and then wonder why thier computer is running slow these programs are constantly running in the background?

and like everyone else said run a defrag at least once a week. If you have never done one or have not done one in awhile it will take forever so do it while you are sleeping. Empty your recycle bin, cache, temp internet files, and uninstall any programs you are not using. Keep in mind when you bought the computer it probably came with a bunch of junk you just do not need (get it off).

if it is a dell computer (sorry) I hate dell computers....

and don't forget to keep everything on your PC up to date as well.

Seriously though, you should think about getting some more RAM. Also check if there are programs running in the background slowing everything down.
I have a macbook and it's been perfect up until a few months ago. When it starts lagging I just check the activity monitor and it tells me what the problem is. Except when I can't identify one Oh and I'm also having major issues with the battery not charging lately. Now at that I do curse

I had a friend that got so mad at her computer that she threw it in the lake by her house...She said she just picked it all up and tossed it in the lake. She also said she felt good after tossing it.. what can I say....

There could be a number of reasons why your computer is slow, as already mentioned - viruses, need to download a cleaner, your server or your computer memory might be getting full. I can relate to how frustrating computer problems are. When mine is finally done for good, I'll take great satisfaction tossing it out the upstairs window.

My navigation system in my car frustrates me to no end and when its no longer fixable, I'd like to bash it with a hammer lol. You have to press okay to get the system going and its moody - can't simply press okay...I have to touch the right bottom corner just right or nothing. It also can't be trusted to get me where I want to go - what good is a navigation system, if it makes me lost.

I know!! Macs are incredible. I've had a least half a dozen or more PCs – HP, Compaq, Acer, IBM, Dell, etc. - and there is a chilling pattern I have noticed: after about 1 or 2 years, it will die, or you'll want it to. For example, I bought a Compaq laptop in 2004, and one day it spontaneously died – the motherboard fried. I sent it in for repairs and was told that it was too damaged to be fixed and that it would be cheaper to purchase a new computer, so I did, and in less than a year it was needing repairs, the fan thing was broken, viruses, it wouldn't turn on, etc. I won a new computer, an HP, that is sitting near me, and it now won't turn off on its own, it's needed two new batteries, and doesn't function overall. The IBM we had we left in in the driveway because it wasn't irreparably malfunctioning.

The Mac I have is 3 years old and has never crashed, never had a virus, never needed repairs, never froze, never slowed down, it is like the perfect computer!

I don't have the money to get a Mac, and I've tried many things including dumping my Microsoft Excel/Windows which took up much of the memory. The computer will run fine for awhile after I boot it, but it will start slowing down inevitably right when I'm in the middle of the process of going through a search list or other list so that rebooting it loses my place. And YouTube seems to be about the worst culprit. I've tried avoiding Norton, Macafee and other such programs that do what I call "taking over your computer". I hate anything that takes over my computer. Even the latest version of AVG went rogue and started taking over my computer and I got rid of it after using it for many years. And yes, I usually yell and cuss when I'm battling anything that's lagging my computer. It really pisses me off. I'm usually a very sedate, quiet person. And I avoid toolbars like the plague.

I wish i could have afforded a Mac. Only problem I ever had with my HP is when i left it on for a week straight and had to replace the hard drive

Koko2 I can relate. Electronics (including computers) have pissed me off so much. radio_flyer's friend said she felt good after throwing her computer into the lake. I bet that felt great! For those of you frustrated by computers this is for you:


There are things you can do to make your computer run faster/better/smoother. I bought my Toshiba laptop running Windows XP in 2008. I'm using it right now and it runs great. Programs never crash, I don't get blue screens, etc. How I accomplished that basically comes down to 2 categories: regular PC maintenance and using the computer in a smart and safe fashion. I could easily write a very long post about this but 1) I'm lazy and 2) I don't want to annoy you so instead I will give you 2 links to basic but helpful Microsoft articles related to improving the performance of your PC:

The guaranteed way to make your computer run "like new" is to re-install Windows but it's not always necessary. It's more of a last resort as far as fixing problems is concerned. If you plan to keep your computer for many years then it's a good thing to do every once in a while (every 2 years, for example). I've done it on my laptop 3 times since I bought it. If you are considering this then be sure to do some research first. There are a lot of steps and you have to make sure you have certain things before you start. You can lose all of your files if you screw up so it's very important to double check everything and make sure you are prepared.

As far as Macs go, my other computer is a Mac mini desktop although I usually run Windows on it. I like both Macs and PCs but I prefer PCs. I think PCs are a better value but they require more "work" to keep them safe and running well. Even with correct usage, some computers are poorly built and obviously you should try to avoid them.

That post wasn't too long, I didn't even rant about "bloatware" or Apple keyboards.
