I found this online, if nothing else it's intriguing reading.

Well I am glad right now we don't share an apartment together.....LOL

this is an excerpt from Livestrong

Food Cravings

If you pay close attention to your body, and to what it tells you about how you are feeling, and your overall health, you might notice occasional and sudden cravings that seem to have no discernible cause. In some cases, this can be due to a nutritional deficiency of some kind, according to Wendy Hodsdon, ND. Garlic is very rich in several different nutrients, including vitamin C, calcium and iron. You might sometimes crave garlic if your body needs more of these nutrients.

Garlic's very good for people and adds great flavor. If you're grating it and happen to have a cut or hangnail it hurts like crazy. If you take individual cloves and plant them - green onion like leaves sprout and these taste great diced in scrambled eggs. One time we were peeling many of these for planting and they made the fingertips sore. I bet it kills germs on the skin.

I have NO sense of smell, and I can't even taste garlic, can't tell when it has been added to food, yet I find myself craving it also. I seem to love it when I cook with it, LOL!

I am the sole consumer in my house of garlic powder. Given enough spaghetti nights, I can probably down a...lol shaker, I guess? Whatever the unit is. Anyway, one of those in about 2 months, which is up there for garlic powder I'm told.
