James L. Knoll IV, MD, tells a tale from the new asylum here: http://www.psychiatrictimes.com/prin...printable=true You may have to register to read it.

The tale talks about the inmate code and the pecking order the code propagates. There are severe consequences for those who have or are thought to have defied the code. Knoll talks of a prisoner who suffered consequences for an offense but survived to recapture the status he had lost in a different context.

What is so disconcerting to me is how the new asylums with all their bells, buttons and whistles are still run by inmates. Criminal activity is rampant. Many do not care, thinking the inmates deserve what goes on.

There are, however, inmates who have acknowledged their guilt, want to reform, do their time and make better choices in the future. Inmates like these are often meat for the prison grinder.
Thanks for this!

Based on my experience, people who want a better, civil culture are also the meat in the corporate / office grinder.
