What a night it has been!

You know as a Canadian it is weird for me to hear about those in the UK or the USA to complain about winter and the cold weather that comes from it . An example of life on the Canadian Prairies…

My car has a flat tire, and when I went to take out the spare tire, I found something would shock those in warm houses and pleasant climates…

…the tire was frozen to the car.

Actually, the entire trunk was frozen, along with the spare tire in it.

As we were assessing the situation, the flashlight froze on us. We had to use another vehicle's headlights, since the flashlights wouldn't work in these temperatures.

In the end it took three of us over an hour and a half with a sledge hammer and a crowbar to remove enough of the ice to be able to remove the spare tire.

And you know what's even scarier than this? It's not half as cold outside as it could be. I've heard of people using torches to heat the under-carriage of their cars, and I started to think we might have had to do that, but I left that decision to my grandfather.

Now we must ascertain how the ice got in there in the first place .

Seriously, though, this is why I hate winter…

Just wanted to share this with my buddies on PC . Be warm tonight!

I ak glad you finally got the tire out of the trunk! And hopefully a warmer day soon, tho yes I know it's only November.

Wow. I couldn't and wouldn't live in that climate. I have a heater going when temps get into the low 50's... yes I'm a sissy
Hang in there... only 4 or 5 months to go before it warms up

Anika: Remember when nose hairs freeze? . People tell me they don't have much nose hair, but I didn't think I did either until, you know, they froze! Had my head hair freeze and break off too.

George: Well we don't have the fortune of being able to move to better climates . Always dreamt of living somewhere warm with lots of spiders . You're mistaken about the 4-5 months; we've had frost in June. It's not common but it has happened. It will be like 6 months before the weather really is better.

Now we have more tires to pay for . More expense we don't need .

I know exactly what you are going through! Brrrrrrrrrrr.

Where I grew up all vehicles had block heaters. They were mandatory at 53 degrees latitude.
Thanks for this!

The funny thing is that here in Newfoundland, where many people associate us with igloos and whale blubber, we are actually warmer, because we are at sea level, coastal, and receiving the warmth of the current. So, we have no freezing cold temps for long here, even though we are further north. We often have green Christmases here. The colder temps don't usually hit here until January/February and it results in later springs.

I lived in Alberta for a long time though and I know how cold it can get. Sending warm hugs your way Mr. V.

Frozen nose hairs.. Hehe yes! And yes to frozen hair that breaks off.. It's funny, I live In the Okanagan in B.C. and they really hate winter and cold here... It's pretty mild winters but after being out of Alberta for 8 years I also find myself complaining about the mild cold now.

When we were kids my parents had a water bed, and you know that feeling when you freeze your hands and feet and when you start to warm uo it hurts so bad.. Burns. My mom would tell us to put them on the water bed to warm up. OMG I would be in tears and not able to stand still, it hurt incerdibly bad. But I still listened and did it every time. Kinda dumb. But that feeling, I will never forget.

Frost in june... Snow in july.. Yup you got a while to go yet.

Nicks_Nose: And the same is true with Iceland and areas of northern Europe. (I studied atmospheric and earth science in university before dropping out and won awards in geography classes.) However, I am smack-dab in central Canada, with no coast to moderate our weather (continental climate), thus we have some significant lows and highs! -40˚C or lower in the winter and +40˚C and higher in the summer. We're among the hottest and coldest in Canada. An F5 tornado hit close to where I am living now back in 2008.

Anika.: Nose hairs do freeze! The Okanagan has no winter compared to the Prairies; I went there in 2009 . Yes, I know the feeling of hands and feet freezing, and it is not a comfortable one. Whenever we travel to the USA we receive some strange reactions from Americans! .

Mr. V, I now live in the Southern US, but grew up in the midwest. I remember some cold weather, but never as bad as you have.

Now... I was shivering last week when it dipped to the 50's!
