I just started crocheting but I only know single and double crochets. I have knitted two blankets in the past that came out like complete disasters (for some reason they were not rectangular in shape...lol) I started crocheting a third blanket but ran out of yarn and have yet to buy more yarn. I get so impatient and only want to try and finish as soon as possible, I think I like the results more than the actual crocheting, but I love having a blanket that was handmade which I could keep forever, whether I made it myself or whether I was given it as a gift. Love it.

i have made tons of things but have been crocheting for about 15 or more years, haha. currently working on a 3ft-tall doll, while ALSO trying to write out the pattern. it is some strenuous work, pattern writing! so much math, haha. glad it was one of my best subjects.

i have a blanket that i've been meaning to make since fall but haven't decided on a good pattern for it. been wanting to do granny squares or octagons but i do maybe one and get bored, haha. i think i'll try again soon.

I used to crochet a lot when I was little. I made a gigantic granny square blanket, but I haven't done it in a long time. A lot of people love crocheted things. You may want to do research on the things people like that don't take a gigantic effort to make and set yourself up a small little business....but don't mind me, m y dad gave me a very entrepreneurial mindset...he had many many businesses over the course of his life. Too bad most of them didn't work out.

haa i'm the same way. i've done a few things on commission. however, it's like i can't make a ton of things if i expect to be selling them. i generally end up giving things away.

but i'm trying to get into a habit of writing patterns for hats and things. i have two so far. i'm hoping to make one a month? but it takes forever, haha.

Find a few things that can be made quickly (take no more than a day or so to make) and don't take too many supplies. You can search on ebay or go to arts and crafts shows when they are in your area. Build up a small supply of them (whatever it is) and the next time an arts and crafts show comes around sell them. Ebay is another place, and there may be sites that specifically sell stuff but I don't know. One thing my mom made and sold was she'd buy the little dolls at craft stores and crochet them dresses and hats...the kind people would display on their beds. I don't think it would take her more than two or three days to make them and she sold them for like $30 each.....20 years ago...

I do crochet. Never liked knitting, probably because of the two-hand thing. I sell my "Hurricane Hats" at WV's craft store, Tamarack, and also at art shows. Sales have been slow this past year, probably due to the economy, but I don't care much...I keep crocheting! I love to make hats and shawls, and I too am self-taught. I teach middle school art, and there is this one sweet 6th grade boy who wants to learn, so each day, after the art activities, I give him another lesson! Off-topic, sort of, he told me his mother had died in Georgia, and he has moved here to live with his disabled father. Such a sweet boy...so creative and inquisitive! I've never had a student so interested in various art activities and willing to try new things. Yesterday, I taught him to make a chain stitch, and he came back today with a long chain. Today I started him on going back on the chain, which is hard for beginners. I hope he will stick with it!

thank you! that's pretty neat. i used to see quite a bit of those sold around here. i may have to look into that, along with my hats.

the doll i'm making now (the 3ft-tall one) is going to be for displays and such, at least until i can save up for actual mannequin heads. but Hobby Lobby sells those little bed doll bodies, i think, so maybe i can save up for a couple of those too
