Ohh I'm nervous......I am forty without a family of my own, and my family of origin does not understand my illness...it skipped their generation...

I have tried hard to live my life to the fullest, I really do so much and experience so much, I've tried everything and smiled doing it!!!

So I guess I look back at my thirties without regrets...

Yet FORTY!!! Hard to comprehend....

I'm having a big birthday party with friends, but my heart is still so nervous......

Happy 40th, dear one! You do have a family of friends here! And we look forward to having you around for a long time. Gee, I can't even remember my 40th birthday--18 years ago. It is a time to celebrate. Enjoy that party and live it up!

I know we all tend to think back on regrets. But being single does have its advantages. (I waited until 33 to tie the knot.) You don't have to answer to a family and all the responsibilities that go with it. I love marriage and my adult kids, but it would be nice to be able to just take off with my single friends on all the trips they tell me about in their Christmas letters, for example.
Thanks for this!

Happy birthday, Junerain! I'm in my forties (I'll be 45 on March 4th--eek! ), and I won't say I'm happy about it, but it's better than being in your 70's (sorry to anyone here in their 70's, but I admit growing older is not something I look forward to).

Just take care of your body, because this is the time things can start to show up. I myself need to lose a ton of weight. I've been lucky so far, but I don't expect it'll last forever.

Well my karaoke birthday party was AMAZING- eighteen people came out!! Close friends sang beautiful songs about forgiveness (The Heart of the Matter, by Don Henley) honesty (Honesty by Billy Joel) I sang a song declaring what I was looking for in the realms of love (Commitment by leann rimes) we sang together and we danced and extended our arms in forgiveness

The birthday dinner was good, and bad. My stepmother has made it certain she HATES me (I have been nothing but sweet and good to her??)
She is making an effort though, she agreed to make an appt with my therapist to learn more about my illness. Most of it is money related- she wants to keep being able to buy $200 purses and own 3 vacation homes, she is even selling the home my Dad provided me (since all I earn is minimum wage working with children..) so she can continue to live as she wants..

She questions my Dad daily whether he slipped me a twenty dollar bill or not as an attempt to help me get by...

So anyway, my stepmother was at my birthday dinner, along with my 3 best friends and my Dad. You could just SENSE how much she hated me, EVERYONE did!! I did nothing, just talked about how much I loved working with kids, asked everyone questions about their life, etc. Everyone thought she was rude to me and basically scared everyone there from ever going to a party with her there again.

So a mixed bag....a fabulous karaoke birthday party afterward, but I had nightmares all night about how much my stepmom hates me...
