All the talk does is draw more attention to the holiday itself - thus more exposure. Bite me!

(I can say that cause I'm friends with him!!)

The anti-valentine threadYes, I confess this tacky "welcome" sign is what I'm using to greet new members today. And now you--to this thread? I like the idea of showing love to anybody on any day. What I don't like about Valentine's Day, as expressed here, is that folks who don't get a Hallmark card (or hey, I'm cheap, a card from the dollar store) can feel left out. And folks who have relatives like children actually can feel hurt if they don't get some kind of remembrance on this day.

That said, I wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day because I do care, and I want you to know that somebody here in the world does. If you want me to "bite you" or kiss your you-know-what for saying that, then so be it! (Some of these messages are funny here! : ) )
Thanks for this!

Wow. REALLY? That's the same ignorant attitude people who believe they have an understanding of everyone and assume they know better. She's OBVIOUSLY troubled because she doesn't talk to anyone. CLEARLY, he has issues at home because he likes to start fights. She HAS to be a slut because she likes to wear skirts. Oh, all the other kids are only mean to you because they're all SO JEALOUS of how "special" you are.

Seriously, you really think that we have to be people who don't get "Valentine's" to dislike the holiday? Or maybe we're so cynical because nobody will love us? Perhaps some of us genuinely dislike mass consumerism that has cheapened all meaning of love and romance. Others may simply be having fun because their sense of humour is satirical and depreciating. Then there's people who don't really like romance or PDA being shoved in their face.

Not everybody thinks in unicorn farts and overly sugary positive rainbows. Just because someone has a different attitude and take on something than you, does not have to mean that they want to feel better about themselves.
Thanks for this!

Maybe I somehow don't get why people are upset about Valentine's Day. I thought I was being helpful. I didn't expect a such strong response to my post. Sorry if I did offend folks. I do understand the consumerism. I was thinking I alluded to that. Oh, well.

Because cynicism is cool these days. Don't worry.

Look, pro-valentine people can start their own thread with mush and hearts and pink (I love pink, but eh).

Us cynics will continue to laugh at life. It's how I got by for 28 years.

I'm not a pro-valentine person, nor do I not "laugh at life". I just think it's silly in this instance.

Yeah, my roommates and I used to tell each other "Happy VD Day!" Just one of many "delights" that can be gained from romantic relationships......
