Hummingbird Pic

Here's my promise of a hummingbird pic. you gotta look real hard behind the unopend buds in front of the bloom there. Enjoy!

i love hummers. a momma brought her babies to my feeder one day.

I think I see it Beth!

I took this one when we went to visit the in-laws.

I see IT! I see IT! - its behind the green bud at the bottom right side of the PIC.................... Kewl.

I still don't see the hummingbird in the first pic. The second is great. My mom's neighbor is trying to lure hummingbirds to her area.

I was scared to look at that pic at first, because I was sure it was going to be one of those things where you stare at the pic really intensely, and all of a sudden, a horrid face screams at you! LOL!

he was so still that I thought he was hurt at first, then he flew away after I took the picture.

I was in Costa Rica a few years ago and saw hummingbirds by the thousands - fascinating!!!!

I thought hummingbirds died if they stopped flapping their wings? Is that a myth?

Must be............................ PICTURES dont lie - lol.

They have to sit on their eggs, so I don't think so. I've seen a number of hummingbird nests, and *think* I even have a picture of a hummingbird sitting on its eggs.

Fun Facts about hummingbirds:

* They do perch.
* They have very weak feet and do not use them for transportation.
* They fly forward, backward, shift sideways, stop in midair.
* They can beat their wings 60 to 200 times per second.
* They lap nectar with their tongues.
* They can fly up to 60 miles per hour.
* They can live 5-6 years in the wild.
* They are the smallest bird in the world.
* They consume, on average, half their weight in sugar each day.

Hummingbirds are able to perch and will do so at feeders regularly.
Because they fly so much, they have poorly developed feet.... they can barely walk at all.
The hummingbird is much more comfortable in flight.

Yes, hummingbirds rest quietly. In the heat they pant. In the winter our Anna's stay over. I was quite shocked but not suprised to see one fly from he feeder one snowy morning and zip down into a hole at the base of a Redwood tree. They apparently cooperate with mammals and/or lizards to survive....... who knew?

Makes sense though, to eat bugs while the others are in stupor, to freshen the air by ins and outs with those little wings going..... Expains why they show up at the feeder dry and without icicles hanging from their little beaks..... which was a question that was driving me crazy for 20 years...... we know nothing about nothing, ya know?

Rhapsody, thanks for the fun facts! I wanna be a hummingbird (but I'd like to live longer than 5 or 6 years)! I love sugar!

What happened to the second baby hummer? Did it fall? Do I want to know? I'm so sad for it!
