Hi I am in desperate need of a break, so I am thinking of spending some time in Cornwall (UK), I would love to visit the Eden Project, spend some time at the coast etc. Problem is I am scared that the transport system may not be accessible for my electric scooter. I do not want to be stuck in one place the whole time and am unable to mobilise my manual chair outside myself.

Also anyone know any good care agencies down there who could assist me with my morning routine...personal care etc.

Also any good places to stay that have accessible rooms with wet room facilities? an accessible swimming pool would be nice too!

I do not drive so rely on my scooter (5 mile radious) or public transport

Hi yellowted,
i live in Cornwall
I am not sure if i can give you great advice about the public transport, as i think that unless you need a certain service (e.g. for it to be accessible), you generally don't notice it.
BUT, what i can say is that there arent a whole lot of accessible buses. Train stations may be different, as there are always people aroujd to help with ramps, getting on/off trains, but depending on where you'll be wanting to visit in Cornwall, there arent many low floor buses.

I have found this link for you, with a phone number that may be useful for you (this is Cornwalls biggest bus company) Mobility Scooters on low floor Buses | Devon & Cornwall | FirstGroup plc.

Hope that helps. Have fun if you do come down this way, it's definitely worth a visit

I wish I could help you with the information you need. I really hope you do get a chance to visit Cornwall....it's beautiful! I visited there a couple of years ago and I want to go back so badly. My favorite place was Polporro on the ocean in SW Cornwall! Don't think I'll make it though...$$$ is a problem now.

yellowted, is there a way for you to hire a van that is wheelchair accessible for your trip when you get down there? That's the only thought I have about it.

Good luck!

thank you both for all your help, very much appreciated x
I have been to Cornwall a few times (over 10 years ago pre disability) so i do understand you may not notice the things i was asking.
I haven't driven since i became disabled, and will as always be on my own down there. I would love to try driving an adapted vehicle, but do not have the courage to try in an unfamiliar place. I had a caravan in Devon for years before i became ill so know the roads can be pretty narrow once you leave the main roads. I may look into learning so i can hire one in future though.
the link for the bus company is great, thank you sooo much.
Thanks for this!
