I have gotten two calls wanting to schedule delivery of my "free" medical alert system -- in at least one case saying it had been arranged by a friend or relative. According to several Web sites this is a scam. I got the messages on my answering system and simply did not return the calls.

I am always suspicious of people or institutions who call for personal info. My bank called one day and wanted to verify me by my 'personal info'. I was suspicious for at least a minute into the call. Turns out they were only doing a quality care checkup, and it turned into a really good encounter. But I was suspicious as hell.

Yeah, my mother got hit twice by these calls. I took the phone from her the first time and the woman on the other end hung up.

Ooh totally scam sounding. Thank you for telling me this (Im in UK too) I will tell the older folks I know in my life, warn them.

We got this call and talked to them in person a few weeks ago. They launched into that it was "like LifeAlert" and into their spiel, in short, that it was free to us as a concerned relative who had been through something similar in needing the same type of system had ordered it for us; so when can we arrange deliver for you? There was no information requested from us until this point. As soon as they said a relative that was concerned had ordered it for us I knew it was not the case as they would have told us. I don't know what they are after as I declined delivery and told them was not interested. Surprisingly they did not push and had requested no information during the spiel either until asking about delivery. They have not called back.

So many scammers are around. And they are getting smarter. I have had a number of emails saying that I was owed a tax refund from the Tax Office all they wanted was my bank account details so they could deposit the money....... not.

No one is ever just going to call up and offer something wonderful for free. It just doesn't happen. Scream, hang up, laugh, blow an air horn into the phone, whatever. They are ALL scams. Accept it, and you'll be much happier. I am.
