I never heard of a Rainbow Gathering until you posted about it. I love rainbows, but I don't think I'd ever attend a gathering because of the criminal element and deaths. If you go, do be safe. I'm too paranoid to go to something like that.

i think that there is just a lot of negative attention in the media. accounts of bad experiences that have happened at the Rainbow Gatherings are false in my opinion. i have never heard about any deaths. some people say there is an element of illicit drug use...but that happens in any segment of our society anyway.
Thanks for this!

Rainbow Gathering is similar in a way to Burning Man w/out the commercialism----more communal. More like a big camp out w/a hippie mentality.

I'd be more worried about drug use and unsafe sex with strangers, plus having to bring a week's worth of food and water.

it seems there's a real good handle on the drug/alcohol scene.... but of course there's always that element in any society. as far as sex, it is strongly suggested that it is practiced safely. also, they seem to be organized about the food and water from what information i am gathering. of course i would be very thorough in packing enough food and water and i would leave if i got uncomfortable.

it's really supposed to be a family oriented event.
