WOW!!! - We could not believe our eyes..... about 10:10 PM last night we heard something that sounded like fireworks and then a BIG thumb.... and when we went out side to see what it was - we saw that one of our MIGHTY OAKS had fallen..... this awesome tree had been there for over 75 years. (so sad Eeek! - My Mighty Oak Fell)

Now the hard tasks -
finding out how much $$$ it will cost to mulch this beautiful fallen mighty oak into pieces.

Bonfire???? Lets have a p-a-r-t-y! Sorry about the tree... it's kind of sad that something so sturdy that have stood tall for so long can collapse in an instant!

Looks like even trees have problems...

I love trees. I hug them, much to my husband's disgust! (Because I have done it publicly once or twice. ...)

I just love how green it is there ... green soothes me!

Rhap is it too late to save any of the tree?

my family used to work for natural resources and in the forestry industry, and I know in cases like that they would remove the sickliest side of the tree and apply this cement like stuff to the open section of the other side - sometimes the tree would perk right up again and grow off the one side.

It is easy for little trees if you can get them quick enough, sometimes you can simply splint the branches back together. Good luck doing that with that tree though, lol!

Not for sure if they can save it or not..... but it does appear to be rotted out all through the bottom part of the tree. There are tiny two feet saplings growing around the bottom of the fallen tree, maybe they will replace it in time.

I studied theology amongs other things, and one of the sermons I gave in my practical year was about death and life. Have you ever noticed that something must firts die before it truly lives? A seed dies in the ground and then a plant grows out of it... your tree died and already new ones have taken it's place!

The TREE MAN came out today to chop chop chop away the Mighty Oak..... all should be gone by this weekend, and the $600 it is costing for the job.

Rhapsody I am sorry about your Oak tree...but thank goodness it didn't hit anything or anyone!!! I think they are expensive to get rid of unless you know someone with a chain saw and can cut it up for you! Like Tanyagrave says...save it for a bonfire! Have sort of like a goodbye to the tree party!!

Rhap could you save a couple of peices to go to a park or a beach where it is allowed?

I like the idea of the new saplings starting. Because essentially it is the same tree just a new generation. Did you manage to keep the new saplings?

Yes at the moment the new saplings are still there - trying to hang onto life as we see it.
