Just curious. I've always been thought of as that quirky girl. I've been pretty okay with that. That's been my niche in any group of people that I've been with. I don't quite feel like I "belong" but I belong in that I am the quirky one. If that makes sense to any one.

I don't mind it. I'm an only child so I'm used to being quite independent.

I'm just wondering how other people respond to you?

Well, years and years ago (maybe about 24?), I made some comment to my therapist about how I might be seen by others, and she responded that people would likely see me as "strange." That sort of upset me, but I appreciated her honesty.

I am probably perceived as a bit different now, but no one has called me "weird" or "quirky" to my face. Well, I take that back. One colleague told me later that another colleague, who was not teaching at that time, was a "bit strange," too. I thought it was a bit of the pot calling the kettle black, but I didn't say anything at all. (We were all psych professors, so aren't we supposed to be a bit odd? )

I am thinking "strange" might be a bit nicer word for "weird" or "quirky." I would have been more annoyed had he used one of those words--well, "weird," anyway. I think most people are likely a bit "quirky."

To me there's quirky weird, which is often socially acceptable... and strange/creepy weird which is something that makes you repel people. It's crazy because it's cool to be weird, but not too weird or you are going to have people talking about you.

I have odd things about me, but I feel a little too normal compared to most people. I almost kinda wish I was more of an oddball.
Thanks for this!

Delightfully eccentric, a little insecure and clingy, ok, extreme insecure and clingy, but very kind to others. I could do a lot worse.

It doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, I usually say, yes I am, but that's what makes me me.
Thanks for this!

I've been called weird, it was behind my back. I know because I overheard a conversation some kids were having at school. However, I really don't mind though I prefer the term eccentric.

What's really funny is I see "normal" people as weird and quirky!

I was actually told by several people to watch the show New Girl with Zooey Deschanel in it who plays "Jess" because apparently my brand of quirky is exactly like her.

I took that as a compliment because I think she's awesome/super pretty!

It is weird how weird can go from cute and quirky weird to like... you're creepy weird.

I feel like celebrities now are almost all some kind of quirky to be successful. Just like how being a hipster is now the popular "hip" (punny) thing to do now!

The recent trend now for those quirky celebrities is to announce they are bipolar, as if the latest fad is to be bipolar, what idiots most of them are lol.

Little little little little girl, way before any of this all came to be, it wasn't unsual to be labled the "weird girl".

lol I don't understand what you mean?

I'm fine with being called the weird one! It's in the good way. I know I'm the quirky one, I'm cool with that. I'm just wondering what other people think

I like to think: to be weird, is to be different.

What I also am starting to wonder more is if we're weird.... What is it like to be normal? Do they think about stuff? Or are they just cogs in the machine? Just living their lives... But not thinking about what they're doing or why..

Then again... what is normal? We are all pretty weird. Everyone is %$&*ed up.

So then why do we still have this dichotomy of weird vs normal?

The whole thing is subjective and has way too many variables. I have no desire to go into the ins and outs of normality. Every time I do, I get a headache. xD Interesting topic, though, ... just a futile one, perhaps?

I'm not quirky...I'm downright weird and creepy. But I'm pretty freaking funny so people find me amusing in settings where they don't actually have to get to know me. Thankfully my boyfriend, who I spent all my time with, is weird as well so we're happy this way

I haven't heard about this! Which celebrities have come forward saying they're bipolar? Like which ones have you heard of in particular that make you say this?

I'll admit.. celebrities who have a mental illness have been a bit of a fascination for me

I was called weird. Then I was like 'so why are you still hanging around with me'? and she was like 'i don't know' and then we broke up.

I'm weird, and I have no intentions of trying to be 'normal'. I always say thank you. What fun would it be to be 'normal'? It reminds me of that creepy Spongebob episode "Not Normal" where he and Squidward became 'normal' and was totally freaky....

Do people call you weird or quirky? How do you respond to them? Do people call you weird or quirky? How do you respond to them?
