Some of you might remember my posts over the last week about my ongoing dental saga. I had the last of my dental surgeries yesterday. It went well and I seem to healing well. Biggest "problem" I'm having is coming down from the valium the loaded me up on for the surgery. Anybody have any idea how long it takes for this stuff to clear your system? Last dose I had was yesterday morning. I'm still flying from it and am ready to return to planet Earth.

Did you have to take your psych meds, too? Normally valium wears off by the next day. I sure hope you're feeling normal soon.

I wish you the best,

Jan

January, it's probably an interaction with my psych meds that also make me drowsy. I'm beginning to circle for a landing on planet Earth so it must finally be wearing off.

I look like a one sided chipmunk. The oral surgeon warned me it would swell. I'm managing the pain with ibuprofen, which ought to help with the swelling too.

Sigh, I woke up this morning and the whole side of my face is swollen. Am going to call the dentist later today if it doesn't start to go down. This whole saga has been one complication on top of another.

I feel for you, LL, I really do. I need some work done and am jittery to say the least. My last two visits to dentists were not only upsetting, they were also astonishingly expensive.

If it is still swollen and in case they did not tell you for the swelling, you can put ice on you cheeks and facial areas, which can help reduce the swelling and help with the pain as well. Too, swishing with warm salt water can help prevent infection.

How is it now and how are you feeling?

Thanks for asking Fresia. The swelling is going down. Only time it hurts is if I forget and chew on that side. I've been rinsing with salt water, also have some antiseptic rinse left over from the last surgery. I've been using it. Silly me figured this was going to be no big deal. Afterall all they were doing was pulling a tooth, right? DUH!!!! He had to do surgery to remove the tooth! Some times I ain't so smart.
Thanks for this!

Be really careful so you don't get a dry socket. I've had two and believe me, they are no fun.

It's when you pull the covering tissue off the socket where the tooth was pulled. You can do it by sucking on a straw, chewing the wrong way, or things like that. They are excruciating. The dentist has to fill the socket with clove dressing and seal it with wax and give you something for pain.

I had intravenous valium once and it took several hours to wear off. I almost wished it never wore off.

I remember right after I started having my anxiety problems needing a root canal.....I had the prescription of valium....so I took 6 of those before I went to the dentist (I wasn't driving thank heavens)....but I didn't want to know what was going on of feel any pain.....they said I just floated into the dentist office....& I really don't remember a thing.

Hmmmm interesting about the dry socket.....I am going to the university dental school to have all my teeth pulled so I can get dentures as all my teeth have broken off....bad enamel from the time my teeth were formed from high temp illness & antibiotics.....my teeth started crumbling when I was in high school....surprised I made it to the age of 60....but really have needed them pulled for over 6 years now & have just been procrastinating.....shocked I haven't had any abscesses either (don't talk too soon)......I just haven't had the money either to get anything done & am just now at the place where I have finally paid off vet bills from my 2 dogs I lost......now I can take care of ME....but with a mouth full of pulled teeth, I would think that dry socket would definitely be a possibility.....not only that but I have to have some soft tissue taken off behind the lower teeth in order for lower dentures to be possible.....that's more expensive than the teeth being pulled.......going to have a couple of inplants done on the lower so they will hold onto the dentures better......they said there would be no problem doing that.

I'm having sympathy pains from what you have gone through LL.....sorry this last surgery was so difficult

My gum kept swelling and the pain was getting worse so I called the dentist's office Tuesday. My primary dentist saw me Wednesday. At first he thought it was a dry socket. Then he decided it was infected. He gave me another course of antibiotics. The pain and swelling are going down, so I guess that was it.

Sorry we scared you George. This nightmare has been going on since July of 2012! Teeth pulled, multiple surgeries, multiple root canals, impants...

I really, really hope you don't have to go through this poop!
