I just wanted to know how the date works??? Is it the same day every year or is like easter which varies??? And what is the date this year?

In America it's the fourth Thursday of November, so yes, it varies every year. The date here this year is Nov. 23. Canada has already had theirs -- it was in October.

The reason I asked is because a good friend of mine lives in the US and I want to wish her a happy thanksgiving (if that is what one do) We don't celebrate it, so I don't know the dates and stuff.

No problems with where to hang it! I'm recalling how on Alleen when she had her show on TV, one of her daughters would take brown paper sacks and make jewelry out of the paper. Can't remember how she stiffened it, though.
Thinking of putting the leaves on something... uh... gold?
