I am just looking for something constructive to do with my time rather than reading about miserable situations. I feel like it can be quite triggering. My contribution is getting into reddit. While still an online outlet, it is filled with humor and mentally stimulating articles and commentary.
What is constructive way you kill time? |

Right now, with me- my killing time, is trying to re-learn advance math... using the internet with free lessons, worksheets, and some free books (Pre-Algebra for Dummies for an example); But that has a goal attached to it as well... It isn't humor though, though some may find it fun in their own way (and is stimulating for my brain).
Some times I read about history, or places too on line. Or how to do things too (DYI) More so these days I haven't been pouring myself into PC as I did at one time, though it can be helpful it can be counterproductive as well. I know pintrest can some times be neat to kill time, to see different art in my case with that. There is an abundance of subjects you can look at on there. Anything you particularly like to do or learn about? Well wishes your way.

Reading, movies, music, games, a class, or finding a new hobby to take up to occupy my time.

Maybe some SEO tactics which are very cut and dry. Also, I am always interested in pharmacology. I also want to look into grammar lessons.
You know it is strange, I couldn't think of a thing i was interested in moments ago, but a simple exchange of ideas got my brain in gear. Crushing depression makes thinking difficult at times, what can i say? Lastly, I want to learn about the newer viruses and how to take proactive approach towards them. |

Good thinking. Really pleased to see someone realise this.
I don't know about the "best" way, but here's what I get up to: I've been learning German, for the past few years. If I feel the need, I'll do some studying up on new words, new grammar usages, brush up on what I already know, or practice typing it somewhere, like with my German friend, type out a German diary entry, or something like that. I'm a guitarist of just over 11 years, so that keeps me pretty busy, when I'm having a good guitar phase, which I'm currently in. I've been spending many, many hours ever day, lately, learning and practicing new pieces (recently learned Tears in Heaven, and Ain't No Sunshine, and I'm working on the Godfather theme tune, fingerstyle Jingle Bells.. hah.. and also Classical Gas, which is on hold until I can sort out my 1st or 2nd fret 'cause it's buzzing a lot, making it irritating as hell) new blues licks, scales, arpeggios, or just getting my head around some of the lingo. I like to research, sometimes, so I'll study up on something that interests me; I sometimes lose track of time doing this. I've been somewhat of a computer geek, since I was a young kid, but I got stuck in to hardware for the past 11-12 years, so both of those can bring up many, many interesting subjects, and plenty to learn. Sometimes I'll fix, upgrade, look up parts, manage my Facebook page (technology-focused) and so on. A few years ago, I used exercise as a way to distract myself and deal with the abundance of stress; I don't do it, now, due to personal reasons that would take too long to explain, but I definitely recommend it. It can be productive, if it helps you relax and cheer up, so I'll add that I also like to watch programmes and movies, ... mainly programmes, these days, as movies tend to have a higher chance of triggering my OCD/anxiety. I'm currently working through Stargate Atlantis, which I'm loving very much. Probably a good few other things, like gaming (currently into Borderlands 2 quite a bit), of course chatting to friends, and whatever else. I don't get out much ("disabled" by my MH problems) so I guess I've learned to amuse myself. xD

Sorry that you you have trouble getting out and if you were nearer me i would offer to help ( ie go out with you). Just do it gradually but then i guess i don't need to tell you what to do. I wish there was some way that we could start local groups on here to meetup and help each other on a practical basis. I can get to London easily so that's a possibility say once a month. Maybe i'll think about starting a group for Psychcentral members on Meetup.com. Thoughts anyone? |

I knit, watch DVD's, listen to music, write. I want to get back into volunteering, but need to sort out my school schedule first.

Writing, reading, cooking, singing, listen to the radio and think, clean out your closet, organize a cabinet or a drawer, take a shower- blow dry- get dressed up, call someone, make something, go somewhere, do some chores, eat, watch a show you like, hide easter eggs in your neighbors yard in the middle of the night, too many to name.

Sounds like a brilliant idea - if you haven't already, I reckon you should do some research on creating support groups. Choosing the right venue, would probably be important. Safety for you and the other members is very important - if people don't feel safe, they won't go. I went to a support group for OCD, a couple of times, a while back, and got talking to the guy who ran it, who often went to places like London, as he hosted many groups - I got the distinct impression that it takes a lot of hard work.
Honestly, I wouldn't feel comfortable asking you to come with me, when I need things doing, ... it seems unfair putting that strain on you. Granted, I put that same "strain" on my dad, but that somehow seems different, ... and I don't badger him all the time; ATM, it's just for therapy, or the occasional trip to the shops for food. It'd be nice to have somewhere local to go, but you don't live in my town - story of my life - all the nice folk I meet online, are a bazillion miles away. xD I shan't say the social group in-case it can trace back to my identity, and more importantly, it could trigger other people. I doodle, look after our 3 dogs, go to the dog park a couple of times a week, go on walks, there are some great local museums, and botanical gardens, the zoo, I took a Zumba Gold class that was pretty fun and hilarious. I do lots on my own and have to get creative with activities. Some really good suggestions here from you all.
Thanks. |

I read or sleep. That's about as productive as I can get with the depression so bad.

Think what makes you happy in life! Why are you here (on the forums)? What caused you to join. Then think what can make you happy about it!
