Does anyone know of a good quality coat thats warm?I'm going to invest in a nice one next year. It doesn't get that cold where I live, I just need a new coat thats warmer than the one I have and have no clue where to start. It would be for me, I'm a woman.

Down is expensive, but I've found it to be the warmest. Of course, I live somewhere that regularly has windchills of -10 to -20, so depending on where you live, you might not need something THAT warm.
Thanks for this!

I have one from L.L. Bean and one from Eddie Bauer. They're both great. I'd recommend either one of those places as a source.

I have an oversized long woolen coat. My very practical boots come up the the bottom of the coat. What accessories I use make it good for mild to below zero with windshield weather. Being oversized allowes me to layer up underneath add scarfs, hats and mittens. I can dress up or just bundle up using the same basic coat.

Blue Bird, I too live in the southern US. While it might not get as cold as the northern states it does get cold here.

I have a Mountain Horse jacket I got from Dover Saddlery. It's actually the second one I've owned. The come in hip length and knee length. I have the hip length one and love it. Not only is it warm, it is waterproof. Where I live cold weather is usually rainy weather.

They are also incredibly durable. My first one lasted through ten years of hard wear. Matter of fact, I still wear it around the farm when I'm working.

I have a Pendleton USA made coat, peacoat style, red tartan. If you want it, I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping, size medium.
Thanks for this!

Hi Blue Bird.

If it doesn't get that cold where you are, then you have a lot more options....no need to get one that makes you look like 'The Michelin Woman'.

I have 3 lovely coats that I bought at Charity shops.

1. Saba full length black .....paid $15
2. Max Mara full length double breasted gray coloured (lambswool and cashmere)...paid $180......Original price $5000
3. Tesuti brown worsted wool with mink collar pea coat.....$40

Granted you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find the good stuff in charity stores, but absolutely worth it when you discover treasures like these....just need to be persistant.

Seconded on thrift store buys.

Real camelhair coat-10.00
Beautiful wool coat that I did some research on and found out it was Armani-7.00

Coats there seem to have very little wear and are excellent quality. Just have to get them dry cleaned.
Thanks for this!

Thirded. Not a word but you know what I mean.

I just realized that I've been hoarding a perfectly good coat that could be given to charity or a thrift store. Kept it for sentimental reasons but haven't worn it in years! Must remember to get it dry cleaned (along with the one I do wear) so I can pass it along...
