I just read in a flyer, a new material on a coat being described as "hydrophobic!"

Hydrophobic? Are you kidding me?
Now our clothes are experiencing fear? Hydrophobic? Are you kidding me?

Does this mean that the coat will start freaking out if it gets wet or comes close to a body of water? Will it rip itself off of me and go hide from the rain, or will it just drag me back home?
Hydrophobic? Are you kidding me?
Now that just as stoopid as being a "cosmollision expert."

You know, it's the teeny things that tick me off the most. Why is that?

I gotta get more of a life happening, lest I drive myself so far beyond that fine line that I'll never find my way back.

Hydrophobic? Are you kidding me?

You suppose it was a typo or some stupid person not knowing "gooder English"??

I tell you, the incompetence of people these days is REALLY SCARY!!! Hydrophobic? Are you kidding me?

the chemicals and material used to make clothing water resistant is called "Hydrophobic" material and chemicals because they repell water instead of absorbing water.

Not a typo.

Yes, thank you. Knew that. It was the word , itself, that is a tad ridiculous. I guess it is just too passe to say water resistant, or water-proof these days. I guess I was thinking about that saying: "a rose by any other name..."

I realize speech and written language changes over time, but geez, hydrophobic? Going a little overboard, I think, in trying to make something sound unique, when it is not. Water-proof is just water-proof, no matter what the material is made of.

I wonder what word could be used for those individuals that come up with what is, obviously, a term coined for marketing purposes.

How 'bout "moronolinguist?" One could even specialize in moronolinguistics, although, I believe "they" already are!!!

Many fabrics are treated with resins, I hate if I happen to buy towels and they just don't dry the water off, grrrrrrr!!
I never use fabric softener in towels so that isn't why they aren't absorbing as well as they should.
Ever smell a fishy odor on new fabrics? It's formaldehyde and sometimes insecticides too, they use for shipping to prevent mildew and cloth eating buggies.
I wash everything before I wear it when new.
Now, raingear, I'd love to have some that really "repels" water, I've found that quality wears away fast.
It is funny to see "hydrophobic" labeled on clothes. LOL!!
