looking for a new puppy - ideas on breeds/names??

I find myself looking for a new puppy... thought it might be fun to get some suggestions on breeds... and of course some awesome names....

it depends on what size dog you want when it is fully growm for the breed suggestions,

for a small dog i would go with a yorkshire terrier or jack russel,

for a medium dog i would go with a wippet, a grey hound or lurcher

for a large dog i would chose either a golden retriever or a labrador

has for names i have a good one for you to peruse

the reason being when you are chasing it down the street when it goes on a detour shouting its name, it is a good conversational piece when people ask why you called it that and you explain the acronim to them, trust me it works lol, oh and did i mention its a unisex name?

Never in a million years did I think I would ever want a poodle.... but then a good friend moved to NYC and I was asked to keep his dog, as we couldn't see this pup as a city dog. A poodle? Clickety-click nails on bare floors? Not my idea of a dog. LOL. But what a loyal companion he was. Always wanted to be wherever I was. Closing the bathroom door meant having him crying on the other side until I reappeared; then it was all 'smiles' and energy again. I had a baby while I had him and he was completely tolerant of all the things babies/toddlers do.

One of life's pleasant surprises, that dog.

For me, any mutt will do as long as they are soft and warm and cuddly!

I would highly recommend you going to your local humane society shelter for animals.

Somethings to consider before you get any dog:

>How big is your home?
>Do you have an enclosed backyard?
>How often do you plan on walking the dog?
>Do you want to have a dog that needs grooming on a daily basis or not?
>Do you want a dog for protection or a family pet?
>Can you afford the Vet bills?
>Do you want an indoor dog or outdoor dog....or both?
>Do you have young children and is the dog suitable with young children (Yorkies aren't suitble with young children due to their size)
>How many hours will the dog be left alone if you work...etc.

We have a beagle Sam who is a very loving and gentle dog, but also has some characteristics that are annoying...We did research dogs before we purchased Sam(full name is Samwise Gangi from LOTR)but probably not enough...Beagles will eat without stopping, and their thirst is insatiable..We have to close our bathroom doors because he will drink out of the toilet bowl and I have that blue stuff in there to clean it..He has wanted more water so badly that he has jumped up to the top shelf of our pantry to get a water bottle and bit it open.He will also knock over soda cans my kids leave of the table and lick up the spilled mess...When he is walked he doesn't walk slowly and tends to pull, so we had to get him a harness..Beagles are hunters and retrievers by nature so when he does walk he practically inhales the ground up into his lungs with all of his intense sniffing...I watch neighbors walk their dogs and it is a nice gentle slow trot..not so with Sam...The vet told me that Sam should walk at least 5 miles a day but that is impossible..What I fould with our beagle is that he is gentle, loving, affectionate, loyal, active, fun, full of energy, and he also loves and is great with my 5 children...If someone asked me if I would recommend a beagle I would probably say no..Sam has a very loud, very deep bark that hounds have, so I am not able to leave him outside due to complaints from the neighbor..If you want a dog to take for gentle nice walks a beagle may not be the best one...I have had Sam for almost 3 years now and he stills hunts the ground when we go for long walks, and also chases squirrels, cats, and skunks...For temperment though I found the beagle to be a loving gentle dog...I think because I do not have an enclosed backyard for him to stay outside, I probably should have gotten a smaller dog, that needs less time to expend energy..

We have a beagle, when we got her, we lived in the country. We just moved to the city and I'm somewhat nervous about her coming here. She's not a howler. My husband's parents have a beagle that loves the sound of his own voice and will howl for long periods of time. Lucy only barks when she sees someone she wants to play with. However, when she does get angry (when she feels she is being ignored) she will carry on like someone is hurting her. She's so naughty.

I've always been told they are dumb, but they are not. Lucy is dumb like a fox! We had a harness for her because they can develop neck problems from pulling but she figured out the exact place to chew it and chewed through 3 or 4 of them. Beagles are pack animals. They do well with other beagles or with families that they feel are their "pack".

We have a run for her outside. Basically, we can clip her to it and she can run around to her hearts content all day. She loves to go for walks though.

My cousin's have 2 border collies. They are the smartest dogs I have ever encountered. I would definitely consider getting a border collie if I had the space and time to devote to one. I also like the puggles (beagle and pug mix).

It all depends on what you are comfortable with, what you want to do with the dog, and the dog itself. Tempraments between dogs vary, just like in people. Lucy has siblings that are the exact opposite of her. One type of dog will work for some but not for others.

I personally don't know alot about dogs ... but i always liked the name gus i suppose that would fit best for a smaller dog though ...

I have had a few dogs in my time and I would have to say our Golden Retriever (Amber) is a wonderful dog . Very loyal, smart and loving.

if it were me it would be a chocolate labrador or a tri coloured cavalier king charles spaniel
it doesnt matter what breed as long as they are playful
