So, I'm getting ready to end my current full time job for another more lucrative one as a host for a restaurant, meanwhile, I'm going to be establishing myself as a tutor with this new online tutoring company that recently just launched in August. If things go well, hopefully I can end up tutoring full time!
Now I just have to brace myself for the onslaught of negativity from my family who have been telling me not to quit my job for months now ever since I first started working part time at that restaurant- I'm sick of my cashiering job, I've been there 4 years to long already (I've just now 'celebrated' my 5th year anniversary since the day I started). Though I have grown a bit, got rid of some bad habits, whether it was smoking weed or just eating poorly on a regular.
I feel like perhaps things really do all happen for a reason but that now the time has well past since I should've left. In one months time I'll be out of there!

Congratulations on your new job. Good luck on your new tutoring, too.

Families sometimes makes it hard for us to move on. I know I let my family influence what I did and it's the most regretted opportunity I missed. Go for what you want and need. You want be sorry in the long run.
Good Luck

Congrats AngstyLady,

I'm all for progress. I believe you've done the right thing. How else will we know our potential if we don't try new things? Good for you!

Congratulations.

Sounds like a direction you've thought through. Tutoring and being a Hostess. Branching out, in my eyes.

Hope that the transition goes smoothly, for you

Gave my two weeks notice today- I'm so ****ing happy! No more being undervalued and overworked; no more asshole manager(there are two other ones, but he's become the main one, everyone despises him for his ways, many customers continue to complain but he's still there- my co-workers have told me numerous times how he's harder on me- we've come to screaming at each other a few times in the past when I couldn't stand it anymore/had a vulnerable moment-like walking on eggshells when dealing with him); no more micromanaging (everyone else does as they please and yet I've been told in the past how I'm the best worker but I'm scrutinized like I'm a ****ing criminal); in the last 6 months or so my bathroom breaks are scrutinized, the length of my breaks (by my boss now- who's become chummy with said asshole manager, who I think is a bit manipulative)- When I'm two-5 minutes late to work my boss always has to say something, yet others who are chronically 15-20 minutes late have no repurcussions; not too mention the on going unwanted attention by some of my male coworkers- did I mention this was a mom and pop store- it's not exactly 'professional' to say the least. What a soul sucking job overall, good riddance to it!

As for the online tutoring thing, I was having trouble with my profile page and contacted the m and it's been days now without a response, but even if it's bogus, my new job will be enough to cover rent with plenty left over- plus the people there are awesome and I get my weekends back!!! I haven't had weekends off in 5 years!!
Thanks for this!

I find that stressful environments like that only worsen my depression. I'm really glad you found a way out.
