Some people are psycopaths, or have strong psychopathic traits. Some people are just plain sadistic. And some people are too destroyed emotionally to function in a way that is even remotely "good". These people are dangerous, and some of them are very charming and charismatic.

The majority of people do have the capabilities to be good but society is structured in a way that most people never will manage it. Most people are too Self-centered, obsessed with money and materialistic things, their ego and vanity. Most people don't even realise they're this way though.
I'm not perfect myself either. Just my own observations. |

Also many people assume they're good for not doing bad. That doesn't make you a good person.

I guess everyone can do a little good along their way through life, but sometimes it is only to make themselves look good in the eyes of others. But I really do believe there are more good people everywhere than bad ones. Sometimes in my life I have received the amazing gift of kindness from complete strangers. I think of these moments as little miracles, to be treasured! That is true, selfless kindness.

I have just finished an online course called the "The Science of Happiness" and it showed me some aspects of human nature are genetic; as in happiness is 50% genetic 10% environment and 40% self-defined. Forty percent gives us a lot to work with and if some effort is used we can use much of that percentage to permanently increase our personal happiness. I believe it would be similar for being good or bad. However most people need a little outside influence to guide them in shaping that 40%. I guess if your 50% genetic level is predisposed to be mainly a bad person than it would be difficult to get that person to be very kind. But we should still help them since we could guide them to become at least a neutral person who would not be damaging to society.
I started a new course today called "The Science of Stress" and I'm sure it will give me some key insights to both my own personality/life and that of others. I never try to force anything on anyone but I do try to pay it forward with the lessons I learn. Have a good day everyone. ![]() |

I think everyone is capable of doing both good and bad. Thinking this way is actually comforting to me because then everyone always has a choice. Keeps me grounded and humble- when I'm depressed and unhappy with myself I have the opportunity to do something kind or just cut myself a little slack, and if I overshoot and become too pleased with myself I remind myself how easy it is to lose my patience and act selfishly. Makes me feel more connected to others, we have all done both (although on different scales) so we can use that experience as empathy and tolerance for others. I hope anyway.

What is good behavior and what is bad behavior? The nazis had an ideology that told them that to commit the acts they did was good. And when a woman is stoned, the people doing it consider it good. When witches were burned, the people that did it considered it good. And the same people would consider it bad to do anything else. So it has a lot to do with ideology, politics, values and sometimes religion. I think we have to first think about how do we define good and how do we define bad. These examples might seem far fetched, but the world is stilll like this today. Some people will consider it good to do things I would consider very wrong. And some people are just plain psychopats.

I think everyone IS capable of being a good person. I also think that nearly everyone is capable of being a bad person (or doing bad things), even if it isn't intentional. A HUGE part of it has to do with their influences in life, and what they've been taught (especially at a young age).
We all have the ability to act upon thoughts, good or bad. Just because you make bad choices or do bad things doesn't mean you're a bad person. In the same way you can BE a bad person, but can make good choices. Sigh this is kind of a hard topic haha. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that we all have good and bad thoughts, we are all CAPABLE of those things. It's about how we act upon those thoughts that truly matters. This will sound kind of spiritual almost (take it as you will), but I feel as if people who are completely insensitive, cruel, malicious human beings just haven't been around here for as long as some others have. They're selfish and primitive in action and haven't learned yet. I suppose that's where you get into the idea of having "new" and "old" souls being around. And regardless of any personal beliefs, it's hard to deny that there just are some people who seem to have more insight than others. |

There is no such thing as good or bad, right or wrong, unless you deliberatly hurt another person. "Bad choices" are a matter of opinion.
