I swear so many things have lost importance, power, and meaning over the years, because people just so often do things out of some obligation, social protocol, and/or some kind of recycled guilt-trip; as though not doing X thing makes them a bad person in the eyes of their fellow man/woman.
Am I alone with this thinking? I initially typed a lot more, but I think I maybe sound like a raving nut-job. ![]()

Could you talk a little more about what you mean, Zwangsstörung? I'm not sure that doing something because it is the "right" thing to do is a bad thing. I will say that I don't do, or not do, something because it will impress other people or because of what they will think of me. My actions are more in line with what I'm going to think about myself because of what I did, or didn't do. does that make any sense? Is it even related to what you mean? |

Having a sense of obligation is a good thing. A child needs to be taught that doing chores is an obligation and his contribution to the household. Sometimes in life you will be called upon for self-sacrifice. A sense of obligation will take over and tell you that it is the right thing to do. Usually, obligation is connected with love or giving one's word like a promise. That's what I think anyways.
