Has anybody seen this movie? Drew Barrymore, Adam Sandler, she has a car accident and loses her short-term memory and so never remembers meeting him though they see each other every day, blah blah blah.

I almost never actually go see movies in the theater, but now that I have a DVR, I've been recording some off TV so I can fast-forward through the commercials and see what they're all about.

I had to turn this movie off and delete it today because it disturbed me so badly. I know it is supposed to be mindless entertainment, but I was appalled by the way they were portraying this poor woman's problem. Her dad and brother go to great pains to recreate the day before the accident, which is where her memory ends. Kind of Groundhog Day-like -- eeeevery day, they go through the same thing, watch the same movie, etc.

All I could think was how horrible that was as a means of coping, and how awful it was for them to do that to her. I'm sure they thought they were doing the loving and proper thing, but quite frankly, my life has been out of control because of medical issues in the recent past, and I would be furious if I were patronized that way. Tell me what's wrong and help me deal with what is in the here and now as a result!

If they finally shaped up and stopped treating her that way, let me know -- like I said, I turned it off and deleted it off the DVR because I was so upset.

I'm probably just being goofy, I know. 50 First Dates

I saw the movie......
and I thought it was good (even though I did not like all parts of it) and IF you would had stayed around until the end.... you would have seen how they (her family & b/f) all realized that what they did to help her was really hurting her in the long run and then you would have seen how they all come together with her to make it work for all involved....... a happy marriage even played into the story.

BUT - I do understand how you felt - for I too cannot always watch an entire show some times.

I saw it and I loved it! Adam Sandler helped her family see how they were hurting her and helped them make a REALLY cute video about her life and what happened. She had no more "bad days" after that.

OK, well now that I know how it turned out, it won't bother me so much to watch -- I'll have to give it another shot! Thanks for letting me know! 50 First Dates
