Tea Biscuit, I think I understand about the "too detailed" books. Personally, I don't care for the really detailed "fussy" books. I have one with designs from the Book of Kells that I have to be in the right mood to do. For the most part I prefer kid kind of books. When I color I don't want to worry about getting it "right." I want to enjoy the fun of coloring.

Thanks Bea. I also make copies of pages I'd like to be able to color more than once.

Do y'all color things the way they are "supposed" to be or do you some times go wild and crazy? Some times I like to go to town, like coloring kittens purple and the sky green. Any of you do that?

I prefer abstract drawings, like mandalas, so I can choose the colours that I prefer.
I don't like too detailed drawings, either...I don't find them relaxing to colour. But I don't like too big drawings either, because I'd get bored using always the same colour to fill the drawing.
Ok, I'm exigent

I got an awesome owl coloring book, I've only done a few so far but it's very relaxing. I do them all sorts of colors. The pattern on one owl made it look like he was part pineapple so I colored him with tropical colors

I just got home from the hospital yesterday (I was in the psych ward), and we did a lot of coloring in group. I forgot how great it is! Thanks all for sharing your ideas and colorings

New Colouring/Coloring book arrived yesterday : http://www.amazon.com/SPARK-Cool-Col...+coloring+book

Very cute. I don't colour as often, but it's still nice to have new material. Today is a day I need to just sit still and do a bit of colouring.

I use Disney books too. And the really big ones? they are great. I also like books with simple animal characters and positive themes like precious moments.

I had a therapist who encouraged me to take 15 minutes a day to "play" so that my inner child would not feel neglected and not cause havock with my adult plans.

So for 15 minutes a day (using a timer) I would color or play with legos and fill out a playful mood measure. I think maybe I'll start that up again because my inner child has been a little disruptive lately and she needs attention too.

I bought my first coloring book designed for adults today at Michael's. It's cat themed. Am looking forward to coloring in it.
Thanks for this!

I'm enjoying a cat coloring book. I'm using colored pencils since the spaces are too thin for crayons. I found out how relaxing coloring is when I was inpatient, too. Plus, it gives a sense of satisfaction when the goal is achieved!

I drew some pictures with wide spaces in them (beach scene, for example) and took them to the mental ward at the local hospital. I bought boxes of crayons when they were reduced for school supplies. I've also bought some regular coloring books and am going to take them to the ward. At least they will give patients something to do during the boring weekends.
Thanks for this!

I colored with crayons in a Disney coloring book when I was 18 in the spring semester of college and found that it was so relaxing (not knowing that I was depressed then simply because I had never heard of it at that point). Recently I do the adult coloring books with colored pencils and it helps when I'm anxious to calm me down.
